** Natalie's last pre-Chicks gig **

A great little link just came across Nici's Dixie Chicks discussion
list. I suppose it's a cliche that up-and-coming musicians can be found
working in any restaurant in Nashville. Well, Natalie wasn't in
Nashville... she was serving roast beef sandwiches and giving kids their
crayons at Orlando's Italian Restaurant in Lubbock, Texas! In honor of
their most famous ex-employee, Orlando's has put together a little page
with the inside scoop on Natalie's "salad days", so to speak. It's a nice
little story, and even gives some details about Lloyd Maines (Natalie's dad
and a Texas music mainstay) giving that audition tape to the Erwin sisters.

Interestingly, Natalie started at the restaurant in July 1995 and worked
there through October. She couldn't have been attending Berklee College in
Boston and commuting to work, so some of the "traditional" stories in those
press releases may be just a bit off. Also of note: Natalie quit on
October 26... exactly five days before founding lead singer Laura Lynch was
given her walking papers (according to James Dickerson's "Down Home and
Backstage").

Check it out!
