Welcome to the Update Announcement List for the All-Inclusive Dixie Chicks
Page! You're receiving this message because you requested to be notified

In this issue: The site gets updated (finally!), an update on the Groobees,
and Big Twang is confirmed at Winfield.

** A long-awaited site update -- of sorts **

Fortunately, most of the information on "All-Inclusive Dixie Chicks" is
static... information about the group's history before they hit the big
time in 1998. But the "Breaking News" section was becoming a joke... it
was announcing Natalie's pregnancy!

That's all changed now, thanks to Chicks web pioneer Nici Larson. She's
given me permission to reprint excerpts from her biweekly "Dixie Chicks
Newsletter" on the site! This report features a summary of the latest news
-- if you want to stay current with the Chicks, without reading a dozen
messages a day from their fans, Nici's report is just the thing.

I'm proud to feature the Dixie Chicks Newsletter on the site! Instructions
for signing up to the full email version are right below the stories, just
scroll down.

** Big Twang to play Winfield **

It's not new news, but Big Twang (featuring founding Dixie Chick, Robin
Macy) is confirmed for this year's Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield,
Kansas. As you may know, the Winfield festival showcased the Dixie Chicks
early in their careers, and even earlier... Martie and Emily performed at
Winfield as teenagers in a band called "Blue Night Express". One of their
bandmates, Troy Gilchrist, is now a member of Big Twang.

For details on Big Twangs' appearances at Winfield, see their Performers
page on the Walnut Valley Festival site:

The Winfield festival runs from September 13th through the 16th. And don't
forget -- Robin and Big Twang are debuting in Dallas shortly after
Winfield! September 29th at Poor David's Pub, don't miss it!

** Groobees Breakup Update **

The following message, by Rob Davis of the Dixie Chicks FAQ
(www.dixiechicksfaq.com), was recently posted to the Pat Green mailing
list. He has given permission to reprint it here, for those curious about
whatever happened to the members of The Groobees.

The Groobees played their final show in Oklahoma City on Saturday, 26
May. All but one member of the band knew that night that it was going to
be their last show. Three band members are married and one of them is a
newlywed. They were wanting some personal time off to spend with their
families and the entire band had been discussing it for about a month. The
Groobees were right in the middle of their busiest tour ever while
promoting their latest CD, "Buy One, Get Eleven Free", so it wasn't as
simple as just taking a break. After much talk, the bottom line was that
five people just couldn't agree on a way for the band to continue on while
two of them took time off, so they just said "screw it". I know that's not
a very interesting story. It's kinda like going out with a whimper instead
of a bang. But the truth is that there really was no major problem that
led to their demise. They simply peaked and lost momentum and interest to
the point that their family lives were more important than the band.

Susan is, of course, currently touring actively around Texas with
occasional stops in Colorado and Oklahoma. Her band includes Denton's
Eleanor Whitmore on fiddle, Michael O'Connor on guitar and Daniel Makins on
drums, both of San Marcos, and Doug Anthony of San Antonio on six string
bass. Susan is no one-trick pony. "Wide Open Spaces" may be what got her
noticed, but it is certainly not her best work. She is an awesome
songwriter with a powerful and unique voice that has to be heard to be
believed. Everyone should check her out.

Groobees keyboard player/singer/songwriter Scott Mellott has moved to
Austin to work in artist management with The Groobees' former manager (and
original base player) Michael Devers. Bassist Bobby Schaffer and drummer
Todd Hall are playing various gigs with local musicians. Lead Guitar player
Gary Wayne Thomason is relaxing with his wife and playing occasional gigs.
