Sad to report, but the following email is absolutely true. If you signed
up for a Yahoo! Groups mailing list (or any other Yahoo! service), it looks
like your marketing preferences have been changed to "send maximum
spam". Follow the instructions in this message to fix the problem.
In Yahoo!s defense, maybe the new preferences aren't in effect unless you
go to the Marketing screen. But better safe than sorry...

>Subject: [Egp-Futures] Your marketing prefs. reset by Yahoo
Just in case any of you, like me, had not yet received a notice from
Yahoo, you might want to know that Yahoo has "updated" your marketing
preferences. What this means is that the marketing preferences you
selected have been reset by Yahoo to make it okay for them to send you
mail that you previously elected -not- to receive.
If you'd like to restore your previous settings back to what you had
selected not to receive, go up to the Yahoogroups home page,
http://groups.yahoo.com/
and log in. Click the Account Info link, (it's at the upper right of the
screen). You'll need to put your password in again, and then click on
"Edit Marketing Preferences." link.
Change all the options to No, and don't forget the two towards the
bottom of the page about phone and snail mail advertising. Be sure to
click the button to save your settings.
When you are returned to the previous page click the Finished button at
the top or bottom of the page.
You must do this for every account you have.
I want for Yahoo to do well... very well indeed, but resetting personal
preferences without informing the member seems a stretch for me not to
raise an eyebrow a bit.
Take care,
David W. Gordon
