In this issue: Old, New, and baby Chicks in the news, DC-related
groups visit Dallas' best-known club, and a short tale of eBay woe.
** Baby Chicks **
The current Dixie Chicks haven't been in the news for a while... the
biggest news from the group is that the flock is expanding again, with
Emily and husband Charlie Robison expecting twins. That makes seven
kids under 5 years old by the time the group starts touring again --
which probably won't be until 2006, according to Nici's site.
However, Nici always seems to have the latest -- including a monthly
email update with the latest news. If you're trying to keep up with
the Erwins and Maineses, be sure you've signed up with Nici.

** Former Chicks **
The group's former members are still keeping busy. According to one
online reference, Robin Lynn Macy is still active in southern Kansas,
along with a few of her former Big Twang bandmates. They go by the
name "Little Twang". But mostly, Robin continues to teach Algebra at
a Wichita college preparatory school. Here's a link to a preview of a
December 2004 show at Cowley College:

And Laura Lynch Tull appears to be remaining active in Fort Worth,
Texas. A July 2004 article in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram describes
her as "now a painter and an enthusiastic advocate for the National
Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame." Apparently, she's also developed a
taste for Sushi. It turns out that the Dixie Chicks' 1994 country
ballet, "All The Right Women", got a redux last September under the
title "Cowgirls Live Forever" -- a reference to "The Cowboy Lives
Forever", the first track from the Dixie Chicks' first album, "Thank
Heavens for Dale Evans".

** Related Chicks (and roosters) **
In more current news, Dallas residents are in for a treat. Poor
David's Pub, one of the Dallas venues where the Chicks got their start
in the early 1990's, plays host to three Chick-related groups in the
next week.
First up is Sara Hickman. She, Robin Macy, and Patty Lege (now living
in Nashville) formed the Domestic Science Club after Robin left the
Dixie Chicks in 1992. Sara is now the mother of two beautiful
children, and the experience has molded her music in the most
wonderful ways. On Saturday, 1/8/2005 (tomorrow!), she holds two
shows at Poor David's: one at 3pm for the kids, and another at 9pm for
the grownups.

Next is Susan Gibson, former lead singer of The Groobees and the
singer/songwriter behind the Chicks' signature hit, "Wide Open
Spaces". The Groobees broke up in 2001, but both Susan and co-lead
singer Scott Melott (more on him later) have gone on to start their
own successful careers. Susan is one of the sweetest persons you will
ever meet, and Poor David's is the perfect place to hear her songs in
a listener-friendly venue. She's playing on Wednesday, 1/12/2005
(opening act comes on at 8:30).

And to top it all off, Scott Melott's new band, Dead End Angels, is
set to take the stage at Poor David's on Friday, 1/14/2005! The
group's debut album, "November", takes the Groobees sound in a great
new roots-rock direction. The first words of the first song are "This
is going to be an adventure," and so far, the adventure been great.

Don't forget, Poor David's Pub has a new location! After more than 25
years on Lower Greenville, owner David Card moved to a location in
Dallas' historic and newly reviving Cedars neighborhood -- one that
actually includes parking! It's also convenient to DART Rail (though
service ends around midnight, check schedules) and to the Ramada Inn,
which has a special "too much fun at Poor David's Pub" rate. All the
details are here:

** ... in which the author finds himself in a pickle **
And now, a cautionary tale. I thought I had it made -- I bought a
full set of pre-Sony Dixie Chicks indie CDs from a seemingly reputable
eBay seller. It now appears that they were dealing mostly in bootleg
DVDs, with most of the positive comments possibly coming from shills
-- bogus purchases made under fake eBay ID's to push up their
reputation number. I should have been suspicious when their listing
said it was from their "personal collection", but included only the
usual information copied from Muse. So buyer beware -- there *are*
people out there who will sell the pre-Natalie discs, but you need to
be sure you know who you're dealing with. I'm lucky, I suppose, that
I "only" lost $45 on the deal.
