This is a mailing list for news related to the original members of the
Dixie Chicks. It's been a year and a half since the last message from
this list -- so please take note of the "unsubscribe" instructions at
the bottom. That goes double for anyone who still feels compelled to
write hate mail, kthxbye.
There hasn't been a lot of non-gossipy news from the Dixie Chicks, old
*or* new. Births, marriages, divorces, and an album that bore little
resemblance to anything from before 1998. I'm sure I wasn't alone in
wondering if Emily and Martie had even picked up a banjo and fiddle in
the past three years. But here's a news item that shows that old dogs
don't forget their old tricks, after all.

Dixie Chicks fiddler Martie Maguire will perform at the Telluride
Bluegrass Festival this summer. She is reportedly at work on a
bluegrass album. The Dixie Chicks won the festival's band competition
in 1990, prior to lead vocalist Natalie Maines joining the band. Other
artists appearing at the festival include the Zac Brown Band, the Sam
Bush Band, Elvis Costello and Emmylou Harris, as well as Kasey
Chambers, Jerry Douglas, Bela Fleck, the Greencards, Tim O'Brien, the
Punch Brothers, Railroad Earth, Todd Snider, the SteelDrivers and the
Yonder Mountain String Band. The festival will be held June 18-21 in
Telluride, Colo. Tickets and camping sites are now on sale.
In addition to the CMT.com story, there's additional information in a
press release from the festival:
36th Telluride Bluegrass to include Elvis Costello, Emmylou Harris,
Marti [sic] Maguire

The most notable absence, of course, is any mention of Emily and her
banjo. But Telluride is known for unexpected on-stage surprises --
the press release talks about John Oates coming on stage for a
bluegrass rendition of "Maneater". It might be a good idea to keep an
eye on the Telluride Bluegrass Festival's website:

Would it be too much to hope for to think that Robin Lynn Macy might
just happen to be hanging around southwestern Colorado this June?
Maybe... maybe not...
