** Discography Update **

You've probably visited the Discography page, with details of all the Dixie
Chicks releases before "Wide Open Spaces" and up through the "Tribute To
Tradition" compilation. It's been a busy month, though, and the Chicks'
discography has expanded! According to the news articles reprinted on
Nici's Dixie Chicks discussion list, the girls are planning to enter the
studio soon to work on their new release, tentatively titled "Sin Wagon."
But that's not all -- find out about Martie's work with fellow Dallasite
Deryl Dodd, and celebrate the group's return to their Western roots with
legendary Texas band Asleep at the Wheel.

** Track-By-Track Reviews **

While you're viewing the Discography, you'll find links to the newly
revised Track-By-Track reviews of the songs on the three independently
released Dixie Chicks CDs. They're still in work -- like everything else
on the 'net -- but you won't want to miss the all-new page for "Shouldn't A
Told You That." With encouragement from the folks on Nici's discussion
list, I've reviewed each song for its "Nat Potential."

How would the Old Chicks songs sound if they were covered by the New
Chicks? Not always an easy question to answer, but essential... as the
Crystal Clear releases sell out, there may be no better way to continue the
Dixie Chicks' legacy than for the New Chicks to re-release the Old Chicks
songs.

** The Dixie Chicks Coloring Book **

In July 1992, Robin Lynn Macy and the Dixie Chicks parted ways. At some
point after her departure, remaining Chicks Laura Lynch, Emily Erwin, and
Martie Erwin posed for a unique promotional item: the Rockin' DC Ranch
Coloring Book. They sold it at their concert appearances as well as in the
Chick Chat newsletter. It's 12 pages of what poor Natalie decries as
"cowgirl frills," and it's just the *cutest* thing -- definitely *not* an
item you'll find on the sales table at a concert today. See for yourself
what the Dixie Chicks once were -- Southwestern adobe, horses, frills 'n all!

** Australia's "Country Update" **

Thanks to an Australian Dixie Chicks fan, I had the opportunity to
transcribe an article from a November 1998 edition of "Country Update," an
Australian country music magazine. It's a facinating interview with Emily
Erwin, the youngest of the Erwin sisters, in which she seems to directly
contradict the unfortunate quote from "Entertainment Weekly." While in
"EW" she called the old sound not "pure" enough, in the Australian
interview she decried Nashville for "trying so hard to be hip that
sometimes it leaves behind its roots." This article provides a valuable
insight into the band -- at its heart, they're still the Dixie Chicks that
played on a street corner in Dallas' West End.

** It's Texas-sized now! **

Thank you to everyone who has joined the update announcement list! You're
now part of a community of over 120 Dixie Chicks fans with an interest in
their facinating past, as well as their promising future. Your interest
and support really keeps this thing going!

Don't forget, if you have any stories of the Dixie Chicks before they hit
the big time, or if maybe you have some old copies of the Chick Chat tucked
away in the attic, let me know! Or if you've got a suggestion for the
site, or if you just want to say, "Howdy"... I'd love to hear from you.

And who knows... y'all stick around, there just might be a little somethin'
in it for you. Look for contests and drawings in the next few months! And
as always, more of the *full and complete* history of the Dixie Chicks.
