Thanks for the response. Much appreciated.
Oh, my bad. I read on the Ouldsod previous posting a fellow said "How is the slow session" in context of J. asking Michael about the jam sessions at the Ouldsod pub. I assumed then there was a slow session from that. (see exert below).
Yes, I tried the Blarneystone pub twice recently (July 5 & 12), and they seemed like a nice collection of friendly folks, but they played extremely fast and made it very clear that they are not going to consider slowing down their playing at all for anyone.
I've been playing the recorder for 6 years, and occasionally play for a local English country dance group, and am recently making the transition over to tin whistle which has actually been surprisingly easy, so I'm actually gotten several of the Irish songs in the Blarneysotone play book up to a decent speed; but even on the songs I knew, I'm no where near the neck breaking speed of the musicians at the B-pub.
I've downloaded the session book of the House of Ireland and checked out their web site and times, but unfortunately I have time commitment conflicts with Sunday mornings. (Such is life).
Thanks again for your response.
Best regards,
Cliff

Hi, Cliff
I think you might have the Auld Sod and the Blarney Stone confused. The
Auld Sod has only one seisiun and it's an advanced, up-tempo seisiun on
Tuesday nights that starts around 7 and runs until whenever. The tempos
there actually tend to be on the fast side, and we play a much wider
variety of tunes than are in the Blarney Stone tunebook.
The Blarney Stone in Kearney Mesa has an open seisiun Tuesday evenings,
and that's where I'd recommend you start out. Everyone sits at tables
so it's possible to use sheet music and tunes are played at various
tempos depending on who is there. Hopefully someone else can let you
know what time the Blarney Stone seisiun starts.
I'd also strongly recommend the House of Ireland music class on Sunday
mornings from 10:30 to 12:00 until you've gotten more comfortable on
whistle.
