Happy Easter to you as well! I'm heading up to Long Beach to host the session there this afternoon. Woo hoo!

I really have no tapes to watch, I have a wolf tones cd here some
where. Basicly my little sister bought it for me a couple of years ago
and I would like to be able to play it at least a little next time she
comes out.

Hi I just joined the Group and was wondering if there is any one who
teaches Bodhran?
I know there are tape out there but I learn better in person.
I'm in Normal Heights near the sod but work nights.
Hope to hear from you soon

Thanks so much I will ck the site or if local the store you mentioned.
Yes, I have already done most of the research. I do want a drum that I can tune from the inside. My friend has a bodhran and does play it. I wanted to purchase a teaching tape, borrow hers and then fine tune (ha) my final choice.
Thanks for your help,

There are a number of music stores that stock beginner drums (Acoustic Expressions has a few and can order anything you like). You might want to pick up an instructional tape to review before you buy one. That way you can get a look at some of the features that you want (or want to avoid). Tuneable vs. nontuneable (and hardware for tuning is different for some drums - avoid the outside tuning ring - it gets in the way of playing).
Mel Mercier puts out a good beginners tape. I picked on up at Guitar Center years ago, but I think you can still get one online at http://www.homespuntapes.com

Hi.
I live in North County San Diego, not far from Temecula.
I'm interested in taking Bodhran lessons and looking for a place
that sells them with the tippers.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks

I guess it was a hint, that would be fantastic if I could grab a lift
with you...
The slow session was pretty slow, you probably would be just fine on
the pipes. I think the session next week is the usual faster session
run by Jack Gilder, but I can't say for sure because the schedule
isn't up yet on the web. I'll try and get in touch with Jack and find
out.
I'll be staying at the Mariott on 4th and Market, I believe the
session starts at the Plough on Tuesday night at 9 PM. Maybe we could
meet up a little earlier and grab a bite to eat.
Cheers,
Michael

Oh, a hint! :-) I'm sure I can give you a lift,
since I'll be driving up there anyway.
How slow is the slow session? I mean, is it bring my
pipes slow?

Hi Justine,
I've been to the Plough a few times, generally have had a nice time. I
prefer the faster sessions there run by Jack Gilder.
If I can work out a way to get there on Tuesday, I'll come to the
session. Unfortunately, its about a $25.00 cab ride each way from my
hotel (Mariott down by Moscone), but I may try and see if I can get a
ride. Nothing I hate more than trying to get a cab at midnight carrying
a bunch of expensive instruments.
Cheers,
Michael

Hi Justine,
Nice to hear from you, looking forward to sharing some tunes at the
tionol. I'll be in San Francisco all next week for a conference,
anything going on? I'll have a flute/whistle and my new anglo
concertina (not ready for sessions with it, though). No pipes this
trip. I arrive on Monday afternoon 9/6, depart on Thursday late
afternoon 9/9. Evenings pretty much free.
The Sod is going strong. We have a great new guitar player, David
Bowen, previously of Michigan, played with the late Al Purcell. There
is also a new music store in town, Acoustic Expressions, where Elaine
and I are doing a slow session tune class on Thursday nights.
Cheers,
Michael
Hi San Diegans!
Who's playing down there these days? I am sorry I missed Peter's
visit. I was thinking I might see him at Willie Clancy Week this
year, but I guess he didn't make it.
I'll have to get down there sometime soon...I missed my usual summer
visit so I guess it'll be at Xmas time. I may head down for the
October tionol in San Juan Capistrano, too.
Hope you are all doing well!
Justine
Well, I hope you talked them into coming to Acoustic Expressions
Thursday night!

Wow... what an amazing night. We had Rick Gagne, a fine tenor banjo
and whistle player visiting from New Hampshire, as well as an
excellent new local fiddler, just recently moved to San Diego. I
cannot recall his name but he'll make a great addition to the session.
I'd say last night was absolutely one of the top 3 sessions we've had
since we started playing at the Sod.
Cheers,
Michael
Just curious, what do y'all think about the new decor at the pub?
George tells me that the gap between the wall panels and the booths
will be mirrors...
Peter Damashek is visiting from Japan for a few days, says he'll be
at the Sod next Tuesday. Here's some shots of me and Peter playing
together at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka:

Hi y'all,
Please feel free to add whatever you think would be useful to the
others in the group. We have about 20 megabytes of online storage
available, so if posting audio files, please keep them pretty short
and in 32 kbit mono mp3 fomrat.
Cheers,
