Well Owen made the several hundred miles trip up the north coast to
Crescent City to perform for the 4th of July at the city's
Beachfront Park.
We arrived on the 3rd and played a warm up gig at a private party at
the Nolan's in Hiouchi and had a lot of fun. It was an outdoor after-
dinner event for friends and neighbors. There is a rumor about Owen
performing on the roof there next summer.
As for the 4th it was easily our largest audience to date, with well
over 100 people in the field in front of the showmobile and 100's
more in the two beer gardens and in the food vendor aisles directly
adjacent. We took the stage at 6:30pm, which was a little later than
we expected as the festival got off to a bit of a late start and
everyone got pushed back about a half an hour. We opened with a
funky version of This and That, which really got things started off
right. We did a cover of the Gordon Lightfoot number Carefree
Highway which many audience members recognized from KCRE and they
began to sing along. And if they did get their chance to sign at
that point, they sure did when we played our rousing rendition of
the Gambler. Towards the end of the show I even climbed up on my
monitor and went wild during the freak-out portion of Nightwalker,
so wild that I accidentally sliced open my finger and was spurting
blood all over my Les Paul while continuing to rock. It was really
an Owen moment.
All of this was video taped and screenings can be arranged for all
those who couldn't make it to the gig.
Here is the full set list:
This and That, Pocketful of Pennies, Burn That Bridge, Carefree
Highway, Poquito De Esperanza, Hobson's Choice, French Toast,
Gambler, Nightwalker
We'd like to thank Mike and Kelley Nolan for having us up to Del
Norte County and Kelley especially for helping to set this up with
the Chamber of Commerce. And as always none of this would have been
possible without our fans, thanks.
