You need to take yourself off if you really want to go:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pacificnorthwest-acappella/members

The only one besides yourself to remove you is John Neal,
harmony@.... You can try sending him an email directly - he's the
owner of this list. And John, for goodness sakes, take that coolhand user
off the list - you can do that, you know.

There will just be another 'memeber' along to spam. I'm on two
other Yahoo groups and I get uh, provocative messages from those
nearly every day.

Anyone who is sensitive to these sorts of messages should probably
stop using the Internet -- On an average day, three 'enlargement'
messages get through my spam filter. :)

OK, but let me tell you how John Neal can fix this problem for good:

1) go to groups.yahoo.com
2) click on this group
3) bottom left, click on management
4) right side under group settings click membership
5) click edit
6) choose the radio button "Restricted (you approve all requests for
membership)"
7) save changes

after this, any SPAMer trying to get on the list will need to tell John
Neal, as owner of this list, their interest in a cappella. SPAMers don't
reply, so they never get added to the list. this has worked for the 5
egroups that I "own."

So don't let this list be hijacked by SPAMers! Or I'll start a similar
list with anti-SPAMer protection.

Calm down, everybody!  :)  To clear up some apparent confusion:  This isn't a "list".  It is a "group".  Any member of this group can send mail to everyone in the group, without having to know everyone's individual email address.

The problem is that this is an unrestricted group, so any anyone can join the group and send us all email.  In an ideal world, this would be a good thing, but unfortunately there are a few abnormal people in the world who want to spoil things for everyone.

If you are still in the Pacific Northwest a cappella community, please don't rush to leave this yahoo-group.  It actually can be a wonderful resource for all of us, and I'd hate to see it dissolve just because of a couple perverts in search of a fast buck.  If John can turn it into a restricted group as Don suggests, we can keep our valuable resource without the pornographic side effects.  :)

If anyone know John's and my history, you'll know I may not be able to influence him here.  ;-)

So I'd suggest:

1) emailing him personally at harmony@...

2) calling him on his personal toll free number that forwards to England, where he's spending most of his time these days (at least that's what he told me in February of this year):

866-614-3534

I'm sure that with a little prodding you can bring this to the top of his "to do" list.

I have to recommend this site most highly. I too recently saw a
television show for the company listed at:
http://www.wrldofproducts.com I checked out their website and decided
to join. Using this absolutely incredible program I have been able to
slash our families groceries bills by about 70% each week! In fact
just this past weekend I purchased $ 197.94 worth of groceries and
only had to pay $ 13.22! This thing allows you to get just about
everything in the supermarket for pennies on the dollar. I feel sorry
for the supermarkets with programs like these. The company also has
an entire network of sites offering different types of savings. This
can be found at: http://www.networkofsavings.com They also operate
The Wholesale Mall of America where they offer over 68,000 items at
below wholesale prices. I was a little confused about the mall, you
have to click on log in and then register from the log in screen.
registration is free and once registered you may purchase anything
you wish. The mall website is at: http://wproducts.mygiftparty.com
This is truly a one stop for all your savings place.

It's almost time for the 2003 West Coast A Cappella Summit and the planning
team would like to get some input from YOU, the potential audience, as to
what subjects you would like to learn more about.

Also, we have a new daytime venue, Olney Hall and Auditorium on the campus
of the College Of Marin, where we can we can run more sessions then
previously over the two days of the event. Our standard sessions are in
place and we have classes confirmed on areas of interest such as vocal
percussion and contemporary arranging but we would like to hear from the a
cappella community on other subjects that would interest them.

The Showcase Concerts and Master Classes will take place as always but we
have not yet determined the participating groups.

If you would like to lead a a one-hour presentation, or have an idea/subject
you'd like to see a session on, then please do send an email to:

Paul Sinasohn (Assistant Producer / Programs Manager) will respond to you

Just a fan of The Coats (formerly The Trenchcoats) here making sure any other fans know they have some upcoming performances in the Pacific Northwest and are better than ever.  If you've ever been a Coats fan, get out there and see what they're up to now!

I just saw them in Milwaukie, Oregon this past Friday night and even though it was quite hot in the Milwaukie High School auditorium, they put on an awesome show.  I'd have to say one of the highlights was the first song, their all a cappella version of the The Boys are Back, the first song on their new CD.

Below are their upcoming dates.  Check out www.thecoats.net for more information, including getting on their mailing list and info on their great new CD, "The Boys are Back."

On Saturday night, there is a show at Kane hall that I would totally
recommend attending. The Semmarit chorus from Finland is performing.
Studio One (my group) has done three shows with these guys now and they are
really interesting. Imagine 25 guys age 22-40 each with a headset wireless
mic. They perform only original songs, a capella (except for a little
drumming, digirie-doo, oboe, and various other acoustic devices) with lots
of effects. Massive choreography, very very fun, and very out of the mould,
at least for a chorus of this size. Only two of the songs in their show are
in Finnish, the rest are English.

The shown is at 7:30, and you can buy tickets through the theater office.

You can get directions from the uw site at http://www.washington.edu .

Hey all, just a quick note, I've been very busy updating A Cappella Holiday, the only 24/7 all-holiday a cappella radio show!

In the past few weeks, I've added lots of great tunes; the playlist now includes contemporary, barbershop/Sweet Adeline and doo-wop tunes from groups like Tonic Sol-Fa, Rockapella, Stormy Weather, The Ritz, Christine Lavin, Hampton Avenue, Jubilation Singers, The Kringle Singers, D.C. Anderson and Rescue Ministries-- plus lots more!

You can find full details and tune in at http://acappellaalways.com

(And don't miss the sister station, "A Cappella Always," for plenty of non-holiday a cappella music...)

Hi all,

Realtime is looking forward to competing at the Northwest Sweeps!
It's been a while since I have competed (1993 with The Edge, finishing
2nd to M-Pact).

My question: how many groups will be there in 2004, and what kind of
groups?

Cheers,

Tom,

I had the pleasure of listening to your quartet in Spokane at the Districts
earlier this year and must tell you it was INCREDIBLE! With a powerful
lineup, your group was the talk among many circles, esp. after your
performance at the hospitality room that evening! :) Anyway, at the sweeps
one can see different kinds of groups: Vocal Jazz, Contemporary (mostly),
Barbershop, Doo-Wop and sometimes even Choral! Anyway, if you want to know
my recommendation, do have atleast ONE outstanding Jazz piece in your set to
prove that you can really blend, and get all those complex progression pitch
perfectly (and I'm sure RealTime is quite capable of that :) Anyway, good
luck and all the very best at the sweeps! God Bless... :)

Wil.

The Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival, now celebrating its 20th
anniversary, is seeking vocal harmony groups of all styles who would like to
perform in this year's events. There are regional concerts in New York,
Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver, Boston, Washington DC and
Olympia, WA. The winners of each regional are flown to San Francisco to
compete in the National Finals, held before an enthusiastic sold out house
of a cappella fans and music industry professionals.

The Harmony Sweepstakes have grown to become a very prestigious event with
hundreds of vocal groups across the country participating every year with
great honors awarded the National Champions along with valuable prizes.

This is a fun event to participate in and, regardless of whether you win,
helps give your group exposure to a wider audience along with the
opportunity to gain further recognition within the industry. Entry deadlines
are approaching and interested groups are advised to contact soon the
regional director of the concert they wish to apply.
