Peter,

I am sorry but I am not the person in charge of the

not sure how to do that. His list is simply a medium to send our our monthly

Hello, a cappella fans!  A few quick updates since my last message:

1)  Due to a mail snafu, the invitations for groups to compete in the Northwest Harmony Sweepstakes went out a week late.  Accordingly, they are extending the deadline to enter by one week.  You now have until next Friday (Feb 2, 2001) to send in an audition packet.  So you're not too late!  See Gary Witley's email below for details.

2)  m-pact's show at the Kent-Meridian Performing Arts Center on February 9th isn't just m-pact!  They've got three great opening acts, so it'll be a fun night of a cappella.  The full lineup is Curfew (four young women, ages 12 to 16), Believe (5 students from Kentwood High), Kryptonite (5 men, recently seen performing at the Washington A Cappella Showcase), and the always fantastic m-pact.  Should be a great show, and it's only $12 a ticket.  See http://www.ci.kent.wa.us/culturalprograms/februaryspotlight.htm.  Send me mail if you need directions on how to get there.

3)  The next Open Harmony, our all a cappella open mic, is next Sunday, February 4th, from 1pm to about 3pm, in Bellevue.  Groups that have told us they'll be coming are the Baudboys, Kryptonite, and the Singing Valentines troupe from Microsoft.  Come on out and join the fun!  http://www.openharmony.org.

----------------------------

Here's the full message about the call for groups to compete in the Harmony Sweepstakes.
Masterworks Choral Ensemble will once again host the Harmony
Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival for the Northwest Region. It is
scheduled for Saturday, March 17, 2001, and will again be held at the
Washington Center for the Performing Arts in Olympia, Washington, at 8:00pm.

The winners of our regional contest (as well as other regional contests)
receive round trip airfare to the national finals on May 5, 2001, in San
Rafael, California, as well as two nights accommodations and a set
of Shure microphones. National champions win $2000.

If your a cappella group (groups must have from 3 to 7 people) is
interested in participating in this competition, please send us your
audition packet as soon as possible. Your packet should contain all
of the following:

1. An audition CD or cassette tape. If you send a full-length CD, please
be sure to indicate the cuts that you want used for the audition process.

2. A short bio about your group and each individual in it. These will
be used in the program if your group is selected to compete.

3. A black and white photo of your current group. 8 x 10 is the
preferred size. The photo will be used in the program and lobby
displays.

4. $10 per person in your group. This application fee will be
forwarded to the national Primarily A Cappella organization to help
defray costs at the national level. Checks should be made payable to
MCE or Masterworks Choral Ensemble.

We regret that no materials, including the application fee, can be
returned if you are not selected for the Northwest Regional
Competition.  We anticipate making our selection by the first week in
February and you will be notified as quickly as possible.

If you have questions, need additional information or wish to have
materials sent to additional groups, please feel free to call me at
360-236-0301 or e-mail me at: gwitley@.... You can also
contact the chair of this event: Ron Armstrong at: 360-943-9643 or
via e-mail at: ron@.... Please mail all materials
directly to: Masterworks Choral ensemble, PO Box 1091, Olympia, WA
98507. You can also visit the Harmony Sweepstakes web site for more
information about this national contest. The site is:
http://www.harmony-sweepstakes.com/##2001

If you have already received this information in our special mailing
(via snail mail), please pass this along to other groups that might
be interested in competing in this event.

We look forward to a very exciting event. Thank you for your interest
in the Northwest Regional Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival.

Subject: Northwest A Cappella Update, January 2001

Hi, everyone!  In case you hadn't heard, I've taken over the local CASA ambassadorship from Ann and Jenn Griffee.  They've done a wonderful job over the last 6 years, and we all appreciate their time and effort and constant support in building our local a cappella community.  They deserve a huge round of applause!  And I have mighty big shoes to fill.  :)

If you appreciate Ann and Jenn's efforts as much as I do, be sure to send them a thank you!  (mailto:griffeeam@...)

On to the local a cappella happenings.  First off, we are all very sad that Canvas has decided to disband.  But all is not lost!  Several members of Canvas are forming a new vocal jazz group, and are looking some talented singers to join them.  For more details, see their audition notice at the bottom of this mail.

The next Open Harmony, our all-a-cappella open mic, will be on Sunday, February 4th, at Crossroads Shopping Center in Bellevue.  We had a really nice turnout at the last one, with six groups performing, and a really cool vocal percussion jam session.  Come on out and join the fun in February!  :)  As usual, if your group will be performing, I'd like to know a couple days in advance, so we can try to work around people's schedules.  But it's ok if your group just shows up to sing.  For more info, check out http://www.openharmony.org.

The Top Gun Barbershop Show is February 16th, 8pm, at the Mercer Island Performing Arts Center.  Six of the top barbershop quartets in the Evergreen district are preparing for the 2001 SPEBSQSA International Quartet Contest this summer.  More details at http://www.openharmony.org/casa/topgunbarbershop.html.

The Northwest Regional Harmony Sweepstakes (the a cappella competition) will be on March 17th, in Olympia.  As it turns out, that's the same night that Take 6 is performing in Auburn!  So it will be a night of fantastic a cappella music, but you'll have to decide which event to go to.  :)  No word yet on who is competing in the sweeps this year.  Info on where to buy tickets for either of these events is on our concerts page at http://www.openharmony.org/casa/concerts.html.

Our local supergroup m-pact is doing a lot of touring, but they've got a couple local public performances coming up:
2/9/01 Kent, WA - Meridian HS Performing Arts Center,  8 PM
    Tickets: $8-$12 - Call: 253.856.5050

3/31/01 Kirkland, WA - Kirkland Performance Center, 350 Kirkland Ave, 7:30 PM
    Tickets: Adults $12, Students/Seniors $8  -  Call: 425.893.0422
You can check m-pact's current schedule at http://www.m-pact.com/concerts.html.

Sweet Honey In The Rock will be in Portland on March 16, the day before the sweeps.  I don't have ticket information yet, but it will be at the Schnitzer Hall. Sweet Honey In The Rock is a Grammy Award-winning African American female a cappella ensemble with deep musical roots in the sacred music of the black church - spirituals, hymns, gospel - as well as jazz and blues.  The group has been in existence for 25 years.  Their web-site is http://www.sweethoney.com.

------------------- Auditions ------------------

What: Auditions for an exciting, new, professional vocal jazz group
When: 2/1 and 2/2 evenings
Where: A Capitol Hill location
Why: To fill the newly vacant niche for acappella jazz in the Northwest

With the breakup of vocal jazz octet Canvas, the Northwest is again without a professional acappella jazz group.  While Canvas is gone some of its members had too much fun singing this challenging and entertaining music.  If you would like to join us in keeping the vocal jazz alive call James Bacher at (206)229-4417 or Karl Hillstrom at (206)329-0710 to set up an audition appointment.  Auditions will be held for all voice parts and will be scheduled for February 1-2 with callbacks being the following week.  We look forward to hearing from you.

-----------------------------------------------------

That's all I've got for now.  Please send me any additions and corrections.  See you on stage!

• Logo contest, win $50 and more!
• Jason Overstreet's Bio
• A few new photos on the web site
• Updated Schedule: Mark your calendars for March 2nd!

Welcome to the e-newsletter for RESCUE. If you are new to this mailing, we are glad you are here! Inside you will find upcoming concerts, the latest news and other information that might not be posted on our web site.

R.A.R.B. PICK OF 2000
An honor from a truly objective source

We are incredibly honored to be on a list with some of the top a cappella groups in the world. This past year we were privileged to have been reviewed by the Recorded A cappella Review Board. The reviews for our two CDs were both encouraging and eye opening. Hopefully we will learn from their reviews and apply them to our next CDs.

The great news is that "2000 Years Ago" was picked as one of the best CDs of 2000. We would love for you to read the review and tell us what you think. You can find it at rarb.org.

THANK YOU TO SUPPORTERS

Last month we notified every one on our mailing list that we are now a nonprofit company. The response that we have received has been so encouraging. Donations have been coming in over the past four weeks. We are humbled and excited by this overwhelming show of support. We want to thank all of you who have so generously given to our ministry. We vow to honor your gift by using it to further the name of our Lord Jesus Christ through the talents he has loaned us.

We were also encouraged that a few of you decided to give on a monthly basis. It has become apparent that this form of support will be some of our most treasured resources as we plan to go full time as a ministry. Although one time gifts go a long ways towards purchasing much needed tools for our ministry, it is through the monthly giving that we can budget and plan towards a full time ministry.

Again, we thank you for your donations and we give thanks to God for his provisions. We will keep you updated as always as to where the Lord is taking our ministry. Please feel free to call us at any time if you have questions regarding our plans and goals.

LOGO CONTEST
Win $50, and be the first to receive one of our new CDs.

What do you see when you think of RESCUE? That picture in your mind could land you $50, a new upcoming CD signed by the members of RESCUE and a picture of RESCUE.

We are looking for a unique and contemporary way for the word RESCUE to be displayed on various items such as letter head, web site, possible tee shirts, CD's, or anything that might need labeling. Until March 1st you can send your ideas either in the mail to PO Box 1127, Gresham, OR 97030, or by e-mail.

JASON OVERSTREET'S BIO
The internet just got a little more humorous

It's finally here! The unauthorized biography of Jason Overstreet has been published on the net! Although the author has truly caught the image of Jason Overstreet in written form, we must admit that not all items are factual. To understand the true significance of this masterpiece, you must realize that we are only trying to get Over to finally write his own bio. Please send an e-mail to Jason Overstreet urging him to write some real stuff about himself!

To find this prequel simply go to our web site and click on the bio button.

NEW PHOTOS
The internet just got a little more ugly

Check out photos from our recent performance at the Rose Garden before a Blazer Game. It's not every day you get to sing for over 20,000 people!

The images are actually a view of the big screen hanging in the middle of the building. Hey, maybe we could be the alternate next year at the Superbowl.

RESCUE singing in the 2001 Pacific NW Regional Harmony Sweepstakes!

This e-mail is going out to everyone in Oregon and Washington on our mailing
list. We don't normally e-mail more than once a month but we had to let
every one know of a special event coming up.

Rescue has been accepted into the NW regional Harmony Sweepstakes
competition. We will be competing against some of the Northwest's finest a
cappella groups for a chance to go to the national competition. We need our
listeners in the audience letting the judges know that the audience
appreciates our music. Would you like to come? Details below...

The Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival, the premier American showcase
for vocal harmony music, celebrates its 17th year in 2001. The annual

Hi Mike, After reading the message below, I've been going to send you a
message but kept putting it off. Do you remember Buddy Seeberg from the
Dapper Dans? He is now in Southern Oregon, a member of the Rogue Valley
Harmonizers. I have the pleasure of singing lead with him (tenor) in the
Rogue Power Company, the Harmonizers first competing quartet. I've been
learning a lot from Buddy and feel very fortunate to be singing with talent
of his caliber. Just wanted to drop a line and say hello. I hope that one
day my talent will come up to the level of the Dapper Dan's. I'll be happy
to pass on any message to Buddy if you like.

Hi, a cappella fans!  We've got a good couple of months coming up!

Both m-pact and Kickshaw have concerts on Friday, Feb 23rd.  That's probably TODAY, depending on when you read this.  :)  See details in the concert calendar below.

The Harmony Sweepstakes are on Saturday, March 17.  There are seven groups competing: Eclipse, Fretless, Kickshaw, Mockingbird, Rescue, Vocal Tangent, and Voce.  This show always sells out, so get your tickets now!  It is on the same night as the Take 6 concert, so you'll have to decide which one you want to see most.  Just make sure you see one or the other!  Support a cappella music in all its forms!

Two Seattle groups are holding auditions.  The audition notices are at the bottom of this mail.  m-pact is also holding auditions for a new powerhouse tenor.  See their website at http://www.m-pact.com for contact information.

Snippets from November's Washington A Cappella Showcase can be heard at http://www.openharmony.org/showcase.  That page also has information on where to purchase video tapes of the show!

The next Open Harmony, our all a cappella open mic, is scheduled for Sunday, April 1st.  Details at http://www.openharmony.org.

And on to the calendar.....

================

ONE GOOD ALTO NEEDED to complete an aggressively eclectic, mixed a cappella quintet. A soloist with style, soul & emotion. A part-singer with excellent pitch, blend & sensitivity. Commitment, humor & reading music are also necessary. Audition info: Steve (425)778-6778 or motenko@....

(The group that is rising from the ashes of Canvas is still looking for an ALTO and a HIGH TENOR, so here is their audition notice from last time...)

With the breakup of vocal jazz octet Canvas, the Northwest is again without a professional acappella jazz group.  While Canvas is gone some of its members had too much fun singing this challenging and entertaining music.  If you would like to join us in keeping the vocal jazz tradition alive call James Bacher at (206)229-4417 or Karl Hillstrom at (206)329-0710 to set up an audition appointment. We look forward to hearing from you.

It has been pointed out that my mails are Puget Sound - centric.  I'd really like to correct this, but I need help!  Send me your performance dates, and I will happily publish them.  :)  Send me your group information, and I will post it on the CASA/Washinton web site at http://www.openharmony.org/casa.

That's all for now!  Please send me any corrections or additions.  See you on stage!

Two really quick updates!

1.  Tonight's m-pact show in Federal Way has been cancelled due to illness.  But tonight's Kickshaw concert in Tukwila is still a go!  Only $7.  See the concert schedule below for more info.  :)

2.  There's been a change in the lineup for the Harmony Sweepstakes.  Studio One is replacing Mockingbird in the competition.

C.A.S.A. A cappella Community Awards
Thanks to our listeners!!!

casa.orgBefore Christmas we announced that C.A.S.A. had a new award that the general public could vote on. The response from our listeners was amazing and because of all of you, we won! Here's some of the text from C.A.S.A.'s web site:

Favorite Religious Group: RESCUE
Runner-Up: Take 6

Founded in 1996, Rescue is a relatively new piece of the great big a cappella picture, but this Oregon quartet is already making their presence felt. Listing Glad and Take 6 as influences, they share their message primarily through their live performances along the left coast. However, they've also broken into the wider market thanks to having their CD's in the hands of some major national vendors.

FREE BUMPER STICKERS TO THOSE OUTSIDE THE NW

Bumper stickers are a great way you can help spread the news about our music! They are also removable!!! Oregon and Washington residents can purchase a bumper sticker for only $1. During the month of March, we are giving away the bumper stickers to anyone that lives outside of Oregon and Washington. Just let us know by e-mail where to send it and you'll get it asap.

LOGO CONTEST
Thank you for your suggestions!

We would like to thank everyone who submitted logos to us for our February contest. There were a lot of great ideas and creative renderings. We have been unable to choose a logo so far but a new logo may be unveiled as early as next month.

CHRISTMAS CD

This month we venture into the studio to start recording a christmas album. We are so excited to start! We expect CD's to be available to purchase by October. Plan to come to a CD release party in the fall. We may also release samples of the CD in mp3 format as the months go on. Please pray for us as we tackle this enormous project. We look forward to sharing with you songs from this special and meaningful season.

it could fit the spiritual mission of your group? I've also done a ton of
spirituals that people tell me are hipper than most that are out there. And
one last tune...JAMAICAN NOEL...it's published by Hal Leonard and always ends
up sounding unique when adapted to the particular talents of each group

We have uploaded a few of our songs for listen and download on MP3.com and
we would love it if you would listen to them!!! One of the songs is "O Holy
Night" from our upcoming Christmas CD that we just started recording
yesterday (we had already recorded O Holy Night a while ago). We are so
excited about this new CD. We will probably put more of the cuts onto
mp3.com in the future.

We hope you like them!

I am an experienced acapella singer, mixed chorus, barbershop, etc.
Interested in being in a small,(4-8 member) acapella group. A start
up group is ok. I'm a tenor (2nd tenor actually), read music
moderately-well, free on weekends. Barbershop type music is my
preference, but like all kinds so long as it is pretty. I Like
gospel, kinda. Classical is ok too. I've done both, not wild about
either.

I don't like any music that puts on airs or is snooty and
self-important. Being a part of a beautiful sound is my main thing,
more than competitions or contests or "making a name". Having the
same goals is so important in these things. I don't care about
anything but the music and making it.

Is there anybody else out there that feels the same way I do? We
should talk....
