On the surface, Paramita defy a number of usual rock band conventions. For one thing, they don’t have a frontman, in both the “front” and “man” sense. The band’s haunting vocal melodies come from a woman, which isn’t exactly uncommon these days, except that in this case, this woman does her singing from behind the drum kit. And fortunately, Ria Bautista is a deft and agile drummer who could effortlessly keep up with the technical idiosyncrasies of her seasoned bandmates, bassist Alsey Cortez and guitarist Marco De Leon. Onstage, Paramita are impressively tight, like a three-headed creature that moves as one; when it flies, all three heads know exactly where to go.. -Jason Caballa
