Dear Friends,
Good news!
According to a Schickele Mix expert I know (in fact, he's the
only Schickele Mix expert I know), PRI next month will start
distributing some of the earliest Schickele Mix programs for
broadcast to the stations that still air the show. By "earliest," I
mean the ones before #52 ("The Fugal Gourmet"), which I think must
have been the very first Schickele Mix program I heard. (I was in
the car, on the way home from an ensemble rehearsal, & was hooked
instantly.)
I don't object to re-runs. I enjoy hearing the old Schickele Mix
shows again & again. But it was a source of frustration that PRI
kept rebroadcasting shows I had already heard several times when I
knew they still had plenty of those very early shows in their vaults
that I had never heard, & in fact was itching to hear some day. I
want to hear the old shows not just for their content, but also to
enjoy anything I can notice about how the show adapted & matured over
the years it was in production.
So before Schickele Mix recedes into broadcast oblivion, we can hope
that the whole body of the professor's radio output will hit the
airwaves at least once more.
