...Well I'll preface the first part of this review by saying that I am not a big
fan of festivals, especially with alot of artists on the bill. I'd rather be in
a nice comfortable venue like a theater. Time is too short (he was only on stage
from 6:35-7:30) Peabo Bryson is the only artist that I would make the sacrifice
to sit out in the sun all day from 10:30am to 7:30pm.
Big Sis was supposed to make this trip, but unfortunately couldnt ((((Big
Sis..still praying for you)))) Wouldve made that wait to get a front row seat
that much more bearable. As it turns out, the front row seat didnt matter, cuz
everyone rushed the stage when the acts came on anyway.
For all the Peabo shows that I've seen since 1978, and for as much as I love
Peabo (and you know I do)....the band seemed really off their mark. There were
his usual musicians, Dwight Watkins, Daniel Ho (I think) and Diana Dentino..I
dont remember which song, but the keyboard player came in wrong during the
intro...Peabo stopped, yelled "NO" turned around, stopped the band and made them
start over. Its best to take it from the top because once you miss your mark,
you never find the groove. I was suprised cuz I'd never experienced that at any
of his shows (and I've seen alot) I dont know who the background singers were,
but it wasnt September Grey and Regina Troupe. The young lady who sang "Tonight
I Celebrate" really did a wonderful job of singing, emoting and making the
audience believe the storyline of the song. The other singer who sang a "Whole
New World" was less convincing. She never smiled thru the whole set, she looked
like she was either hot or tired or in pain, but she was truly disengaged. At
one point, when she came out front to sing, somebody in the audience yelled
"smile girl, dont look so evil, its not that hard" Then she smiled, but it
seemed put on and distracting.
Well, Peabo if your ever in need of a back up singer, I know ALL the parts, I
got your back!
Part 2 coming up......
