K, here it is once again, this is the brother,
the brother, etc. These are some lyrics from a band
who are truly splendid lyrically (Public Enemy),
unlike the Stereophonics who are quite good, but not as
good as you all think they are. What I particularly
like about this club is that it is called Performance
and Cocktails. I like the way that you have taken the
name of the band's second album and merely named your
club after it. Anyway, the official Stereophonics
truth is this: Kelly Jones is a very good singer, he is
probably one of the best singers around in Great Britain,
possibly the world. However, the next point is that the
two best vocalists currently in music are Huey FLC
and Shaun Ryder, neither of whom actually sing, they
mumble, or speak-rap. Therefore the problem that you end
up with is that, yes Kelly is talented, but he is
not performing in the way that I would feel would
make him a truly great vocalist. My next point is that
the Stereophonics music is basically dull AOR, and
although wants to be heavy, and a rawk sound, it is middle
of the road under a more acceptable face. Yes the
tunes are quite good, but they are not superb. Traffic
for example is overrated by all of you, and indeed it
was by me at a first listen. But listen to it, its
dull, it has nothing to really recommend it. And, I
know that bands do have influences, and it is
difficult with four preceding decades to make something
truly original and fresh, but by blending influences,
and only coming up with something that sounds good
but like other artists, is not enough to make you a
great band. The Stone Roses for example took all their
influences, but made something fresh and great. The Phonics,
despite "that" voice, good lyrics, and nice tunes are not
the rock gods you make them out to be. Please don't
delete me from this club, but reply. I want to have a
stimulating discussion, and pull some sweet little punanny
out there. And finally, the fact that Kelly from the
Phonics is attractive is not enough to make the band
good, take Ooberman, the bird is fit, but the band are
shit.
