YesServices Update - June 2002   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #40 of 45 |
Dear YES Fans:

YES Tour Time is almost upon us, and there are a lot of fun things planned
for YES fans in different parts of the country. Here are the latest
updates for June 2002.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
1. CLASSIC YES TOUR PRE-SHOW GATHERINGS
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Traditionally, YES fans love to get together to "meet, greet and eat"
before a concert. These marvelous gatherings are always a wonderful time
for folks to connect faces with email addresses, to see old friends again,
and -- now more than ever before -- to introduce our children to the YES
Fan Family as second- (and sometimes third-) generation fans.

At YesServices, we receive information from folks all over the country who
are planning pre-show and post-show parties in their cities and want to
publicize them. The invitations are open to all YES fans.

Please Note: It is always a good idea to check directly with the party
coordinators for updates or new developments. Things can and *DO* change
without notice. Here is the information, current as of June 7, 2002:

Contact:
Steve & Janet <yeslodge@...>

DETAILS: A Denver Pre-Show gathering is being planned for fans who will
be in the Denver area all day Monday. Coordinator Janet writes, "YESfans
who want to escape the city for a few hours can find a great place to relax
or walk or bike at LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN PARK, just 20 minutes west of the city
off I-70 at exit 256 -- called the "Lookout Mountain Exit." [follow signs
for Buffalo Bill Museum].

"The park offers spectacular views of both snowcapped peaks and the entire
Denver metro area. There is ample parking and the park is right alongside
Lookout Mountain Road, so you can be comfortable no matter what you wear,
although a sweater or light jacket is always good to have.

"We will try to secure the pavilion and there are tables , so feel free to
bring a lunch! [Because of serious fire danger they are not allowing the
use of their grills at the present time.] There is also a coffee shop
within walking distance at the Museum offering burgers, fries , etc. Be
sure to drink plenty of water to ward off any discomfort from altitude!
C'mon up and get a feel for our beautiful mountains at 7375 feet! Please
email if interested!"

the parking lot of the Sandstone Amphitheater. The parking lot opens two
hours before showtime. There is no official "coordinator" for this
celebration party. Just come to the parking lot before the concert with
your picnic supper, ice chests, lawn chairs, and have that YES music
playing! Fans will assemble wherever the fellowship is in progress. If
you're the first to arrive, you'll become the "welcoming committee"! See
who can design the best car decorations! Make a YES show banner! Kansas
it the Home State of the tailgate party, so join in the fun! Everyone is
welcome!

Detroit, to be held at the Lindell AC Sports Bar & Restaurant, located at
1310 Cass Ave. This historic down-home bar & grill is approximately 3/4ths
of a mile from the Fox Theater. There is plenty of street parking all
around the Lindell (the meters are not used on Saturdays).

The Lindell does *NOT* accept credit cards, so bring cash. Food prices are
very reasonable -- the highest priced item on the menu is $5. A house
salad will be available for vegetarian guests, and YES music will be
playing throughout the restaurant.

Fans will be gathering at the Lindell at 4 p.m., and the party will
continue in full swing until about 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome! Bring
your families! This promises to be a rather LARGE party, so have plenty of
hugs to share!

An information email list has been organized. Please email Mike or Ken to
let them know you are planning to attend, and you will be added to that
list for updates and announcements.

2. LIKE LEAVES WE TOUCH !
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The "Like Leaves We Touch" Project at YesServices is certainly getting a
good work-out since the Classic YES Tour was announced!

*Many* people are planning extensive "tour-following" trips to see multiple
concerts, and a great number of international guests are coming to the
United States for this tour! The "Leaves" volunteers are gladly helping
anyone who needs information about travel-related issues for specific
cities along the tour. <http://www.zenponies.com/yes/leaves/index.html>

Do you need the name of a good restaurant, a nice hotel, the nearest
airport, the best route to the venue, tips about unexpected detours or
highway construction? If you will be traveling to a new city to see a YES
concert, feel free to email any of the YES fan volunteers who are listed
geographically at "Like Leaves." These wonderful people will assist you
personally to help make your trip as easy and pleasant as possible.

If you would like to join the 500+ other YES fans who are participating in
the "Like Leaves" Project, please send your name, email address, the city
and country (or state) in which you live to <Michele@...>.
Everyone is welcome!

----------------------------------------------------------------------
4. SPREAD THE NEWS
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You may post announcements to the global YES fanbase by submitting them to
"Spread the News" at YesServices. Here are some of the latest news items:

(a) The Steve Howe Master Class, sponsored by YesFocus Holland on May 25,
was a huge success! The class/performance was held in the Stadsschouwburg
Concert Hall in Nijmegen, Holland before a near sell-out crowd. The
performance was attended by members of the Dutch YES Fan Club, The Steve
Howe Appreciation Society in the U.K., and fans from Germany and
Switzerland. The event was covered by local and national radio news
representatives and reporters from the print media. Steve seemed to enjoy
himself immensely, and illustrated his skill and virtuosity with solo
material as well as songs from the YES repertoire. The Master Class also
featured a Q&A session and a "jam session" with guitarists from the Dutch
YesFocus Club. It was a great evening, and both Steve and the audience
enjoyed it to the full. YesFocus in Holland is definitely on the move, and
we're bound to hear more wonderful things from this active and supportive
group of dedicated fans. For more information, contact the Public Relations
Representative for YesFocus, Paul van der Maas <lndnreporter@...>,
and be sure to visit the group's website: <http://www.yesfocus.org/>. To
read Wim Knijnenburg's review of the Master Class, click here:

(b) Alan White will be performing at a release party, to be held on June
22 at the EMP Sky Church in Seattle. The party is in honor of Queensr˙che
vocalist Geoff Tate's first solo CD. Guest artists, including Alan White,
will be present to perform in a jam and play a few new tunes that are being
prepared for the new QR album. This is primarily a Queensr˙che Fan Club
Event. For more information, email: <fanclub@...>. The Sky
Church is located at 325 5th Ave. North, Seattle, WA - Phone: (206) 770-2777.

(c) "YES Fans For Life" are contributing to cancer research by
volunteering their PCs to help process molecular research being conducted
by the Department of Chemistry at the University of Oxford in England
<http://www.ox.ac.uk/> and the National Foundation for Cancer Research
<http://www.nfcr.org/>.

To participate, you simply download a very small, no cost, non-invasive
software program -- (size, 1.534 Meg) -- that works like a screensaver: it
runs when your computer isn't being used, and processes research until you
need your machine. Your computer never leaves your desk, and the project
never interrupts your usual PC use. There is no cost to participate and no
impact on your computer use. The project software cannot detect or
transfer anything on your machine but project-specific information. It
just allows your computer to screen molecules that may be developed into
drugs to fight cancer. Each individual computer analyzes a few molecules
and then sends the results back over the Internet for further research.

The goal is to enlist enough volunteers to provide very rich and thorough
results to the University of Oxford for further research. This project is
anticipated to be the largest computational chemistry project ever
undertaken and represents a genuine hope to find a better way to fight
cancer. The computational power to perform research of this scale is only
available through the generosity of individuals like you.

When you download and install the software, you are then walked through the
membership screens which provide your login and password information. Then
go to the "YES Fans For Life" Team page (URL below) and click, "Join This
Team." Please participate!
