Phil Ochs may have died more than 30 years ago, but his music and messages continue to win new fans. This list is for people who appreciate Phil and his music and the political and social principles which he wrote of and fought for.

If any of you are wondering why I started this group when there is already a well-established and fairly active listserv available, the reason is simple. I have no intention of undermining Trent's efforts, afterall I've been a member of that mailing group for most of its life. However, there are no public archives available for that group -- nor are there for any of the several other Yahoo groups which have been established for Phil. I believe that having posts available for people to read and to research is important.

Those of you who were around when Trent established his listserv may recall that he had all the posts archived on his Ochs site for the first couple of years. Unfortunately, as the group grew, his space for storing those posts was no longer sufficient and he had to stop archiving. This was unfortunate as I still recall contacts from people who were researching topics such as protest music, Emmit Till, Phil Ochs, etc. contacting the group or, sometimes, me personally, to ask further questions. The archive served as a way for people to do that research and to read stories from those who experienced these events and knew the subjects first hand.

So, hopefully, this group will grow and people will discuss Phil and his music and times and the information will be available for people who use the Internet for some of their research and for those who are just curious about Phil and his music.
