Hello pilgrimworld members,

First let me say, i am currently taking my first steps in the prog
metal genre, and i don't know many bands yet. To this type of music,
i gained access through my preference for highly complex contemporary
jazz music. A friend of mine once introduced me to progressive, namely
a cd by liquid tension has been shown to me. I wasn't fond of it from
the first moment on, but after a while, i began to like it and in the
end, i must have heard this cd (experiment no. 2) at least some 50
times!
After buying the other liquid tension experiment cd and some dream
theater cds, i went to homepage of magna carta to look for some
further bands. I came across of lemur voice, of which i decided to
buy the albums (i don't have them yet).
My problem now is, that there is a vast amount of metal acts around,
and it is very difficult to gain a good overview over the scene.
Follow the label links is always a good method, but it costs a lot of
time. I live in Switzerland, and unfortunately i don't know any
specialized stores over here.
This led me to the idea to ask people, which are competent enough,
directly in a forum or so.
Luckily i found your group. could you please help me with some
suggestions?
The style i am looking for should primarly be similar to liquid
tension. I mean preferrably instrumental prog or bands with some
instrumental songs. Then the playing ought to be highly sophisticated,
technically perfect and razor sharp. The band should have fast songs.
I also appreciate the synphonic way the songs are arranged in on
liquid tension cds.
Do you know a group that i would probably like?
Thank you very much for your help!

cheers, Chris

Christian, That's easy to answer. Yes, there are a lot of bands, but the greatest and most sophisticated ones are not in abundance. There are a number of...
