Hi Alzn, good to hear from you. I've seen the name of ELIS, but never heard
the music before. I am guessing it is like symphonic gothic metal band.
Anyway, you seem to enjoy your music life. Currently, I've been listening
to ART METAL featuring Jonas Hellborg a lot.

As for prog music, I am going to check out SIEGES EVEN's Paramount very
soon.
Thanks for your heads up, Al.

Hello Tetsu,
How's it going? I'm bored at work. Lately I've been listening to Elis
and some old punk rock. Here is my list of music:

Hello the list

Except for irrelevant spams and non-sence messages, it's been sooo
quiet here for long time. Probably, it's time to post what you've been
listening to lately :-)

In my case, I've been getting into the cd like:
SYLVAN - Presets (neo-proggressive rock from Germany)
SUN CAGED - Artemesia (melodic prog metal from the Netherlands)
PAT METHENY GROUP - The Way Up (fantastic jazz/fusion from U.S.)

Probably, I do not need to explain Pat Metheny Group.
New cds of both SYLVAN and SUN CAGED sound really great to my ears.
European groups like them do perform really nicely in the realm
of progressive-side metal and rock. But, the new one of SYLVAN
sounds mellower and more emotional than this Humburg based neo-prog
group's previous album to me.

Hi all,

I guess I have to express an opinion here.  First I have to tell you as both a fan of the music and a musician myself I've been more than just a little disapointed in the group.  Which isn't pointing any fingers at members, the current exchange has really lead me to wonder if the extreme quiet in the group since the time of my joining isn't out of fear of what can be shared here concerning the music.

We all  have different taste' in this form of music.  I thought it would be cool to be able to get a taste of some different things that maybe I hadn't found on my own as well as I had thought it would be neat to get some feedback concerning the song sample up on my site at http://scottblack.net  I don't have anything up on my site for sale at this time.  I had just thought it would be nice to share something of my own creation and see what anyone may think of it.  Again, after posting that last time around when I first joined quite some time ago I never heard anyone's comments or opinions regarding the piece.  I've since put up a better quality sound sample of the piece as well as let a little more of the song up for your listening enjoyment.

If anything I guess if that isn't welcome here then maybe some one should start a group to share how they feel about the music as well as giving people the chance to check out newer music that isn't on major lables as well stuff that is.  When I joined this group that was really what I thought it was all about, not getting mad.  If some one is trying to sell something on here that's a totally different story, but from what I've read from this persons post I didn't get that at all.  I thought we were all here to make new friends and share idea's, musicians make music to share, not just to profit, it is a deep part of who we are.

sorry, angry and myopic guy -

first off,  the term progressive was not used to classify 'spam' -

it was, and has been used to describe the music of the actual band, braindance, over the past 14 years.  for example,  wikipedia define progressive music as a certain approach to musical composition that has been applied to several different music genres. they also define progressive rock as music that expands traditional musical structures by adopting influences of jazz, symphonic, folk and world music.

furthermore, pilgrimworld invites people to join their list to "share thoughts and exchange information about progressive and powerful metal music."  tetsu himself has expressed to us directly that it is very welcome for everyone to post anything related to progressive kind of rock and metal in general.

secondly, the aim was not to sell a cd -

the aim was to turn open-minded people on to the band by inviting them to their myspace page and join their friends list, as well as to inform them that a new album was in the works...we don't need to post for sales, and nowhere in the posting was a request for money or purchase of any kind..

you are so angry and so bent on maintaining a forum that punishes those people who you believe have violated your private 'code', that you haven't even bothered to read the actual posting...

perhaps if you had read the actual posting, and then felt that it was inappropriate, you should have simply stated so, instead of rudely demanding free cd's twice, and then continuing to harshly chastise members of our staff under the pretention that you are speaking on behalf of your associates...

in fact, we have already received several transmissions from members of your group that have apologized for your childish, vindictive, misplaced anger -

perhaps you might look towards finding another avenue for this insecurity before you continue to embarrass everyone around you...

please stop harassing us -

no further,

marta

Your aims were to sell a cd, Am I correct? Should you have jposted something like "Hi my name is Marta, I am an executive for a prog rock band and I wanted to let you know about them". It is so much easier to copy and paste a newsletter to a mailing list. We have been having massive attack of spammers on yahoo groups. If it were you to tell me about the band Marta I would probably have checked out the band and probably would buy the album If I liked. I rather enjoy to accept friends recommendations.

hello tetsu -

thanks so much for your comprehensive and informative letter - it's no wonder that you receive so much respect as the leader of pilgrimworld...

in the past, we have had no problems adhering to the rules set forth for any group, and will certainly continue to abide by whatever guidelines there are...

as mentioned, we believed that we were in compliance by posting relevant information to pilgimworld as set forth by your introduction creed...

if daniel had felt that our posting was inappropriate, he should have simply stated so, instead of rudely demanding cd's twice, and then harshly chastising members of our staff (on your behalf, no less)...

it is this kind of obnoxious, condescending attitude that puts people within groups at odds with one another, and creates an elitist environment of hostility and insecurity...

believe you me - it's hard enough to break an independent, crossover progressive band without dealing with this kind of nonsense...

thanks again, tetsu, and we look forward to hearing from you...

To Braindance:

Hi, I am the administrator of PILGRIM WORLD mailing list. I was thinking of
sending a private message to
you, before Daniel spoke up. Daniel has already mentioned an imporatnt
thing, so I have to open up my mouth for
him and other list members. This list is meant to be a gathering place and
very small community
for someone who enjoy both prog and metal in general. Of course,
It's very welcome for everyone to post anything related to
progressive kind of rock and metal in genetal.

However, the list members here do not usually prefer
reading spam and advertisement. Whenever I see such irrelevant things,
I usually delete the name from the list
and those people never come back here again. In the case of yours,
your message was music-related. And I happened to have read the articles of
Braindance before, so I thought it's not a complete spam message.
That's why I just kept being quiet until this moment.

In addition, e-mailing with HTML code is not preferable on this list, so
please
change into TEXT format/code as you post next time. Some members here are
also playing
in the scene of prog and metal, but they do not usually post so-called
'plug' about their own groups
and projects. It's sometimes okay to talk about what you've been doing for
your group casually.
However, sending two big HTML e-mail messages are too much for some readers
like Daniel.

Therefore, please understand the rule above (even though it's unwritten
code/rule here,
I assume everyone here understand avoiding conflicts and problems). I really
hope you understand
the situation and atmosphere here. The reason why I did not exclude you from
the list so far is that
I have enjoyed reading the articles and review about Braindance on
progressive metal, and I believe
Braindance are good people.

However, if you do not follow the guidance and rule above I have mentioned,
then I sadly have to
omit your name from the list. Having said that, keep up your good work for
Braindance in New York area (right?)

I have not even checked out BE yet. There are some mixed opinions toward BE,

Entropia and One Hour are my favorite albums of PoS. In addition, I really
enjoyed The Perfect Element Pt.1 as well
as their first two albums. Remedy Lane is quite hard to get into in my
honest opinion. I still can not enjoy
this album sadly.

It's quite surprising news about Kristoffer's departure. I wish all the best
for both Kristoffer's future and
PoS. I did not know that Kristoffer has lived in Holland for a few years,
according to the info
on PoS website. I am guessing that Kristoffer is going to related with Lana
Lane band for a while.
He's performed as a member of Lana Lane band.
He came to Japan for a live gig of Lana Lane.

Pilgrim world is the only list I set to still get messages and I had

coming here, so I thought about emailing.

As for nevermore, even though I spent most of my teen years listening
to power metal, it is a scary word for me, so It was great to notice
that Nevermore is a technical thrash band, which is one of my favorite
styles.

All the best,

Century Media Brazil offered a big deal: the first 4 Nevermore
releases for good prices and it was a coincidence that it was the time

I can't tell you why I hadn't heard them before as I really love them now.

Hi Alzn,

Gackt is really popular right now in my country. He used to be a member of
melodic gothic rock band called Malice Mizer or something. Indeed, he has
a really low and deep voice. But I think his personality is a bit strange.
He is a bit showy in my opinion on TV shows, but yes his music is diverse.
What he has done does not alway hit my comfort zone, but his music
seem to have convinced lots of popular music fans, so far.

Tetsu and all,

Greetings. I haven't spoken on this board for awhile,
but I just wanted to chimein on my fav rock album of
2004. While you may think of Europe as a "hair metal"
band, and think of their pop-ish songs like "The Final
Countdown", those that know of their beginnings in
Sweden know that they began as a prog-ish metal band,
influenced by UFO and Deep Purple. Behind their
priginal sound was the guitarplaying of John Norum,
who left the band when they adopted a new pop sound.
He went on to a solo career under Americ'as shred
label, Shrapnel. Die-hard Europe fans always felt that
Europe was at its best while still in Sweden, with
John Norum handling guitar duties. After 12 years of
silence, Europe reuited, with John Norum on guitars.
They released "Start From the Dark" in 2004, which is
one of their finest albums. Much darker and heavier
than their last three albums w/o Norum. They have
matured and no longer write about outer space, Ninjas
or partying. I thought it was a great album, and
unfortunately I had to buy the import. My copy
features live performances of 2 classic songs, "Seven
Doors Hotel" and Wiongs of Tomorrow", songs which were
popular in Japan back in the day. I highly reccommend
this cd. :)

Now I will return to the darkness and lurk lol....

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for your input, always. I have no idea why spammers post something
weird message, constantly. The worst part is just someone who left smap,
and then erase their information and membership as soon as they posted.
As much as possible, I don't welcome those spammers on this list, anyway.

I could not get BE last year, even though the soundfiles on InsideOut have
quite unique and unusual. However, I'd like to catch up about new release of
Pain of Salvation this year, I hope.

This is the one I have been very impressed since I got. I mean I got their
reissue version of Focus including remastered tracks with their other
project, Portal. Their instrumentation is really complex and intricate.
At the same time, what they displays on this album sound really intriguing
in my opinion. Over these years, I have been getting used to some harsh
death vocals and growls, so I do not mind such extreme vocal styles.
I think using such growls and spacey vocals alternatively is quite
unique.

Thanks for subscribing the list, Daniel. I am glad you feel comfortable
to stay in this list. Much appreciated. :-)

Hey Tetsu,

I wouldn't mind these spammers, but yeah, you always have to delete
them out of this list and this might be boring :-(

Anyway, I can't say I've heard many 2004 releases. I am thinking hard
to remember one or two and I can remember only of PoS, "BE" (7/10) . I
actually bought very few cds lately, and they were :

Dio: Magic, Inferno Live, Killing the Dragon
King Crimson: The Power to Believe
Death: Live In LA
Cynic : Focus (after around 10 years listening them on a tape I got
the actual cd)
Bozzio Levin Stevens: Situations Dangerous
Slayer; Diabolous In Music
Queensryche: Tribe
System Of A Down: Toxicity

I dig 7for4, but I am not sure the album I heard was a 04 release. I
love the two albums Wolfgang Zenk played with Sieges Even...

I am happy to see the list hasn't died as Pilgrim World is the list
I've been subscribed for more time than any other...

All the best,
Daniel

Hi, everyone on the list.

I know...I know....
recently this list has been super slow, and
nothing going on. Ok, before posting my favorite albums of 2004.
I'd like to make sure and announce one thing.

I know it's really bummer you get e-mail
message with spams constantly.
Somewhat, spammer's postings
once in a while pop up. As much as possible, I erase those
spammings, and try not them to be a list member anymore.
It's really irritating everyone. Whenever you see the spam,
just erase or ignore it. I have no idea where they get to know
this list and sneak into here, then disappers...very strange.

Ok, having said that moderator's boring announcement here.
Let's talk about favorite album of the year, 2004. I think there
are some great albums and not so great albums. Anyway, I have enjoyed
listening to the cds I got last year.

7for4 is one of surprising instrumental prog metal fusion. It sounds
weird for some people, but 7for4 features ex.Sieges Even member,
Wolfgang Zenk, who is a phenomenal guitarist. He does amazing job
on the album. So do other members of 7for4. Really killer and burning
prog rock/metal instrumental works with nice amounts of fusion and
jazz rock in the contemporary manner.

Ayreon's latest album, The Human Equation, sounds really brilliant,
too. As usual as other Ayreon albums, there are lots of splendid and
superb vocalists and musicians appearing. I think THM is one of the
best Ayreon albums. Yeah, of course, Into The Electric Castle is
still being fabulous album as well, though.

Besides 7for4 and Ayreon, there are other goodies and killer stuffs
released in 2004. Anyway, I better stop here. Speak up what's your
favorite one from 2004.

Hey Tetsu,

I think you're probably enjoying it as I did it. Discount the dialogs
and you will have a decent album..

Hi Daniel, thanks for the e-mail with an extra message.

As for new album of Pain of Salvation, there are lots of speculation and
pro and con opinions spreading out I think. Hopefully, I would like to
give a try to their new album and upcoming DVD release as well.
According to general opinion toward new album of PoS, it should
be very intriguing for my tastes.

> Lots of dialogs.. Very boring too

This is the part I worry that I am not going to dig, probably.

Hey Tetsu,

I heard it already.

Discount two tracks: a Gospell chorus ( At the first time it is good,
but it gets too annoying) and another song where they basically wrote
a background atmosphere and mixed with dialogs of fans that called
Gildenlow's answerring machine and left a conversation with God.

The rest is quite insteresting, well, I did like it better than TPE
and RL. I only heard it once so I can't say a lot more...

Lots of dialogs.. Very boring too

Daniel

Yes, Daniel. I am here. I look forward to hearing new album of

intriguing, even though it sounds like totally different from what they
have done previously.
