"A play which everyone can enjoy" (The Guardian)"The fun is tremendous. An overwhelming success" (The Times)
The Spirit of the Man is a brand new play about Brian Clough, the greatest football manager England never had. Written by the award-winning Stephen Lowe, this feel good comedy drama is a hilarious speculative fantasy that follows Nottingham Forest’s legendary football manager, eerily portrayed by Colin Tarrant (best remembered as Inspector Monroe from The Bill) beyond the final whistle and into extra time.
Not one to take death lying down, Old Big ‘Ead jumps at the chance of returning to this earthly realm to dispense his own special brand of inspiration. But there’s one thing he hasn’t bargained on: it’s a writer-director called Jimmy who’s in need of assistance, and his personal and professional life is falling apart at the seams. Then finally with Jimmy’s play written and a bunch of dysfunctional actors thrown together, Clough wastes no time in helping to knock the team into shape.
This is a production that has something for everyone, from the most theatre-shy football fan to the most sports-hating culture vulture and everybody in between. The Spirit of the Man takes Cloughie away from the realm of football and into a more unusual world of theatre with some tremendously funny moments. It has music, a play-within-a-play, poignant moments, belly laughs by the bucketload and a huge sense of spectacle!

We’d like to hear from anyone who has a story to tell and can relate their experiences of what life was like in the Pink Singers and in the last two decades of the 20th Century.
