Last night a musical tornado hit Toronto. No one was left standing, the
field was swept clean of sceptics and doubters. They came onstage to a
smattering of polite applause. Doubters and sceptics were everywhere. They
were a few of the initiated, myself included. I knew what this band could
do.
By the time it was over even I could not believe what I had seen. Blown
away. Even me, who had some idea of what these guys were capable of, and who
had heard some live material from them, before, could only stand and stare
in stunned amazement. The only thing I could compare it to is the aftermath
of a tornado. Flattened. Every concept I had about what one man could do
with a guitar, Steve Wilson blew away in a vortex of unbelievable
performance.
To those who urged me I should go to the concert last night, my deepest,
deepest thanks. From Phil, my friend who came with me and was utterly blown
away as well, his thanks, too. For those of you who might be thinking of
going to see this band - GO. Take the wife, take the husband, take someone
else's wife or husband. Take the dog. Take the cat. Take the goldfish.
But go. Luis, enjoy the show. Wear protective clothing.
One last thing to say. After the show, my friend Phil and I went to
Sportster's after the show, our home bar. There were only two of us, but I
ordered a Drambuie on the rocks. I placed it on the table, and told
everyone it was to stay there until we leave. It was a friend couldn't be
there, but was responsible for all of it. You know who you are.
I came to work on 3 hours sleep, so if I write anything goofy, please
forgive it. I'll try and do a more complete review on PMSReviews, when
possible. Doug.
