Hello Beamers,
Before we move on to news of Peter's latest album, please have a read through
our current newsletter about other goings on here at Pink Hedgehog... firstly I
have some sad news to share. Rick from the band Eye has passed away after a long
and bravely fought illness. He was a lovely guy with an amazing talent and
remarkable voice as anyone who has heard his music will already be aware. I was
very proud to release Eye's Don't Sleep album together with Dandyland in Germany
and had joked with Rick that he wasn't allowed to die until we had at least
another 4 from him... given that he took about ten years to finish the first one
I thought that would take him well into his 80s. Unfortunately that wasn't the
case... he remained very positive and creative throughout his illness and got
genuine pleasure from all the kind things people had recently been saying about
his music. I'll copy the notice from the Dorset Echo below for you all to read.

"Richard Hammond", 19-07-1967 passed away 04-05-2009 after a well fought battle.
His honourable wishes were to help medical science, therefore there will be no
formal funeral. He would like his family and friends to celebrate his life in
their own way."

What about new music... well my album Failing In Biology got a digital release
on 18th May 2009. Unfortunately the physical release has been put back a couple
of weeks whilst we wait for someone to order a copy! That, and we are waiting to
see if we manage to pick up any reviews in the July magazines - we live in hope.
If you can't wait any longer then you can buy it from iTunes! or from our online
store right now http://www.pinkhedgehog.plus.com/shopbiology.htm
Other new music on it's way is the much talked about and much delayed (but none
the less excellent) new album from Mondo Jet Set. It's called Girl Action and
it's gonna blow your mind! A huge leap forward for the band, both in terms of
songwriting and production... you can preview an entire song at
http://www.myspace.com/pinkhedgehogrecords. The album gets a digital release on
29th June 2009 and will also be available for a short time as a gorgeous
(strictly limited edition) vinyl replica cd.
In July we have the equally anticipated new album from Peter Lacey to look
forward to. In fact this release is a collaboration with poet and songwriter
Stephen Kalinich. Fellow Beach Boys fans may already be familiar with his name
as he was the first artist to be signed to their Brother Records back in the
late 60s, writing songs with both Brian and Dennis Wilson and appearing on each
of their records. The new album is South Downs Way and is breathtaking in it's
beauty and ambition, taking both Peter and Stevie on an artistic journey uniting
emotive words with beautiful songs!
'South Downs Way' will be released on 6th July 2009 as a digital download and a
limited edition (only 100 copies) CD! I will be putting up a song from the
album onto out MySpace page within the next day or two, so keep an eye out for
that!
Finally, congratulations go to Eoin of Hamfatter (and Dragon's Den fame) on
becoming a proud daddy! Sean Patrick O'Mahony was born on 10th May weighing in
at 8lbs 4oz, all our best wishes go to Eoin and Anna!
Have a great Summer one and all, take care, Simon.
