There's a bit about this release on bedford's Prefab Sprout web pages -
basically "Hidden Sprouts" was a Japanese only B-sides collection, that was
never actually released. If your friend has a copy it's either a CD he's
burnt himself, a very very very rare promo, or proof that a limited number
of copies of this album did make it into the shops.

Have you seen the original CD that your friend owns? Any chance you could
get a picture of it to post on the web? If this is a genuine release, I'd
be very interested to see it.
