Hi Joe!
Hi all!
This is Renata speaking, but I can assure you I have nothing to do
with the Prokofiev's "Fire Angel" Joe Johnson…; no arrangements at
all…between the two of us...
I just want to say one thing about "The War SONATAS" and to ask
anyone who might know about how to become a GROUP-moderator, and if
one can moderate a Yahoo-group `targeting' someone who's still alive.
What rules should be in a MODERATOR's mind, etc…
I'll tell you who I'm referring to the next e-mail if you want!
The first consideration I would like to do was about a the 8 th
Sonata.
I have studied each sections , I'd say rather well, because I have
felt that Music as a reflexion of my own life in the past. (In
another context obviously; I mean with no political and social
oppression but other kind of oppression as well as everyone does
feel in his Life on a higher or lower stage, I presume.
I have then written a short work about it. It took me 18 days,
albeit but I've done only 166 revisions.
I've ended it one year ago. It was like a "MISSION" to me having
realized such work. And in fact, it was no work at all.
It has been just pleasure; and, after having stopped my 8th Sonata
auditions, because I got a little "tired" of it, I began hearing it
again through a new perspective a few months ago.
I find it the most intricate Piano piece ever written and the "most
expressive story" ever composed.
It really is a life-story I think.
In fact it has crossed my mind to try to make a kind of analysis
between that sonata and Kafka's books - because I `ve found very
interesting that comment of Gavrilovs in which he said that
" he thought that the key to understand that Sonata was perhaps on
F. Kafka's key faces". More or less like this.
But then I thought, way in heaven should I do such analysis, it
should drives anyone's mind crazy!
What is interesting to notice is that D. Shostakovich who had envied
Prokofiev all his life and discredited his work as well,- as a
matter of fact he, Shostakovich was very mean to everyone as far as
I'm concerned-, has `surrended' to his compatriot's geniality at
that particular point - when the
8 th Sonata was written.
It is not a structured and methodical musical analysis, because that
was not my really intention.
I have only heard PLETNEV's performance which I didn't really
apprecciate much.
Richter's, I still haven't got the pleasure to know it! But I think
it must be very good also.
I'll be very glad to 'hear' any 'musical-text' from you!
My BEST
Renata
