Prokofiev's Fourth Symphony (itself derived from the finale of his
ballet The Prodigal Son), the central movement of Walter Piston's
Second Symphony and the first movement of Aaron Copland's Clarinet
Concerto?
I think Prokofiev's influence has been extremely understated and
most likely ignored due to Cold War politics. Our critics were no help,
sad to say. Ever since 1979 we have had "Testimony" so as to at least
provoke discussion about who the "real" Dmitri Shostakovich was; I have
yet to hear of someone who did a similar service for Prokofiev.
