Surf's Up in CA!
The Pyronauts
Hey Paul!
It was me, Sara that posted the picture from the Relay for Life. I
am glad that I got to catch the cool new choreography! I was working
on Thursday night and was looking forward to listening to you guys.
At 6:50 pm, I tried to tune you in on the clock radio....I couldn't
get anything but Howard 93.7...so then I went online, but the
computer at work did not have a player that would transmit the
audio....it would take 59 minutes to download!!!! I was sooo mad! I
went out to my car and listened for a minute and then I was
determined to find a radio! (I work at a dance studio.) I peeked
through a window that had dancers dancing and there on a dolly, was
a huge boombox! I went through the back door and hauled out the boom
box to my front desk, and turned the Pyronauts way up! All the
parents waiting to pick up their kids really enjoyed the music!
Unfortunately, I began listening at 7:15 and you guys were off by
7:45.....Oh well! You sounded GREAT!!!!! I am so glad that I did not
have to miss it!
Thanks!

Did anybody tune in to KVMR Thursday night? Just wondering how it
sounded. Somebody posted a picture from the Relay For Life gig last
weekend, it's of a new choreographed move we'd never done before!
Anyway, big gig coming up! CA STATE FAIR on Sunday Sept. 5th!
I also have a question for everybody. Considering that winter time
is the "slow" season for instrumental surf music-- what types of
gigs should we go after? Are there any big festivals or events that
take place in the winter? Any suggestions would be great!
Thanks,
Paul The Pyronaut
-Hey Paul,
Kevin and Joel nailed it on the head, you guys are a fun/lively
band. And the Young energy definetly comes thru.
Not that I say it's a must, cause I'm happy as a clam to just hear
music. But for the general public type things, to gain more interest,
and fans. You gotta open up and talk more.
What the song title is
Who wrote it
what it's about or in reference to
what key or scales it's in(ala Insect Surfers)
where you are palying next
that you have merch for sale9 about every 2 or 3 songs, especially if
people are wandering by(like at a fair or outside st. party),do it
every song.
Give your web site address
have a e-mail list sign up form
If someone breaks a string tell a joke or introduce the band members.
etc.etc.
Hope that helps.

Based on what I have seen on the "Meet the Pyronauts" multimedia CD I think you guys are a great live band! You have fun on stage and that's what it's all about. I would think that if the band on stage is having fun than the crowd gets into it more. I've seen lots of bands that just stand there and play but the Pyronauts have an enjoyable show with some choreography as well. I personally don't like vocals - but that's just me.

Okay, I already had this conversation with Paul the Pyronaut, but since
you ask: more vocals. Paul's thinking re: being memorable enough as an
instrumental band is reasonable, but you're asking for opinions, not
facts, right? ;)
But, even without singing, more audience interaction. Talking to the
folks makes you people instead of just 'the band' - creates a personal
connection that just playing with skill and finesse doesn't always do.
joel
Since this is kind of an open forum, and I know my feeling won't get
hurt, I have one question to everybody.
"What would make the Pyronauts a better live band?"
Anything helps.

Dan,
The MP3s are definitely still available. They're under the Files
link on the left. I've tried downloading them on a few different
computers, but can't speak for all computers. Maybe if someone knows
more about MP3s they could chime in. You might try right clicking on
the MP3 title and selecting Save As if that's possible. Also make
sure you've got an up-to-date MP3 player. I think most of them are
free for download. Don't give up, please keep trying!

Hey Jeff,
Good to hear from you! The new owners are saying it's strictly 21
and over, which sucks.
We do have a new CD, "Live from the Pit" which is out now, but not
yet available online. I've been waiting for Dave at
ZptdudaMusic.com to get it up, but he's a pretty busy guy. I can
send you one directly if you'd like. We recorded it on KFJC over a
year ago, and then a couple studio tracks about a year ago. Phil
Dirt gave it 5 stars! Hopefully they'll be online soon!

I know it'd be easy just to do it to your own group. But you gotta
be on the lookout for new fans also.

Dannies are way cool. When I was chatting with Skunk Baxter, he kept
talking about how much he loves 'cheap' guitars, and then he'd talk
about his really old Danelectro. Know a guy who plays a Danelectro bass;
pretty cool toy.
Joel,
We primarily use Jazzmasters. I have a back up Jaguar, and Mr.
Bitchin' has a back up Stratocaster. The Baritone that he uses is a
Danelectro.

Hey, Bob - when you play baritone guitar at the shows, is that another

Hey Everybody,
I'm usually out at shows on Sat. nights. But Nothing doin' so I'm
home infront of the tube.
The History Channel is going to run a 2 hour special on the History
of the Beach. It starts off showing how people were afraid to go.But
then the Romans began to go as a get away/relaxation place.
I heard some type of surf music durring the promo for it, and they
show footage from the 60's beach party type films, and surfing waves.
it's supposed to run at 10pm pacific, and then re-run a couple
hours later. But if you have the dish or something it might be
differt than that. So check your local listing to see. But it's on
soon tonight.
Jeff(bigtikidude)
There is a good possibility that we will be on TV tonight (Tuesday
Aug. 3rd) at our gig in Woodmore Oaks. Channel 31, UPN, will be at
the event reporting live and hopefully they'll show a few shots of
the band. If you're in the Sacramento area, please tune in to 31
between 7 and 8pm tonight! Let us know if you see us!
Thanks,
Paul The Pyronaut
I just posted some pics from Hot Summer Nights in Nevada City. They
were taken by Mike Meals, he really captured how HOT it really was
in Nevada City. Take a look!
Thanks,
Paul The Pyronaut
> The new CD should be available on ZptdudaMusic.com very soon.
. . . and it rocks like being there!
How was the show Sunday? Took us FOUR HOURS to get to Frisco from Sac.
Prepostrophe! Shoulda been 90 minutes. So, it was either turn around and
come right back, or miss the show in Rancho Cordoba.
It was a tough call, honest it was.
joel
Jeff,
It's good to hear from you. Who do I talk to at Go-Boy? Do you
have an e-mail address?
The truck belongs to a fan. He brings it to most car shows that we
play in Auburn. He brings a surfboard and a bucket of sand that he
throws out on the street in front of us, it's a real kick!
The new CD should be available on ZptdudaMusic.com very soon.
Surf On Jeff!

Cool to see that you got a Yahoo group, but don't expect a ton of
trafic on it. Even the Slcktone/Mermen/ and Los Straitjackets groups
are real dead sometimes.
Cool truck in that picture for the home page of the yahoo group.
