Sorry, I was unclear here. It IS a software based DVD-A player. It's
called Creative MediaSource DVD-Audio Player (v. 1.00.12) and it's
bundled with the Audigy 2 card. But the actual DVD-A's are played on
the regular generic DVD player that's in my modest computer. So, I am
able to play DVD-A's, in full "advanced resolution surround sound"
(as well as adv. res. stereo), without a DVD-A player. Which is one
of the things that makes the Audigy 2 such a good deal from my point
of view. It does the DVD-A thing and then WinDVD does the DD 5.1 and
DTS thing, so basically I've now got three quad formats and they are
ALL software based. This was all quite affordable and works very
nicely.
Sanyo DCA 1600X is my decoder. It's a Decoder/Amplifier and it's not
really great at decoding quad LP's, with few exceptions, like
_Abraxas_, _K. Kristofferson _Jesus Was a Capricorn_, and _Best of
the Guess Who Vol. 2_, all of which seem to decode to almost
discrete. But I do like the quad II mode on stereo source material,
especially for live stuff and movies. Really seems to punch it up and
bring it out.
