I have a 1970s-era quad player in my (classic) car -- the unit was
unused and has performed fine until recently. I'm not sure if I have
a wiring problem with the speakers, or something is amiss with the
deck itself. Here's what's happening: a stronger, clearer signal is
coming through the right speakers for the first program (or first
two on a stereo cassette tape) with a muffled, weaker signal coming
to the left channel. This reverses for the second program (or second
two on a stereo tape). I've tried adjusting the head, both height
and azm., to no avail. My this just be solved by cleaning the
playback head off? I've only had the unit about six months. It has
chewed up a couple tapes, and I've had to clean off the mess from
one melted roller. Any thoughts on what might be going on?
