Description
This group is a line of communication for, and invitation to, beginning and
intermediate level musicians in the Raleigh area to join in regular bluegrass jam and practice sessions. Instruments welcome: acoustic guitar, dobro, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, acoustic bass (jug requires pre-approval).
Players who like to sing are definitely invited too.
Although called a jam session, sheetmusic is welcome if you want to use it. Join the group and then come join the jam!
The best way for a beginner to decide if this group is for them is to give it a try. A playlist of songs is in the Database area of this Group for new members wanting to get a leg up.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
“I have this definition of a successful musician: a person who enjoys
playing music, nothing more. After all, what is the primary
purpose of music? Ability is great, but without the enjoyment,
what is the point? And if it is enough fun, the person
will do it more, and improve.
A hard fact: Most people who try to learn bluegrass-style...give up at some point, whether after a few months or a few years. I feel this would happen far less if teachers and instructional materials would help students, from the first lesson, to play simple music with others.” - Pete Wernick ( ‘Dr. Banjo’ )
