thinking about Dee Dee   Message List

Well, after I heard the news about Dee Dee, I walked down to Cb's to
see if there was a memorial or anything going on. On thursday
afternoon I didn't see anything out there...no flowers, no candles,
no letters. I figured that it was still early, and hell, his death
didn't even make the papers until friday.

So I decided to give it a few days to see what developed. On Sunday I
walked by there again and there was indeed a small memorial outside
of CB's. It was very small with just a few flowers and candles and
cards. It paled in comparison to the outpouring that JOey received
upon the news of his death. I don't know if it's because of the
circumstances under which Dee Dee died or if people are still in
shock or if the flowers and such have been thrown away everynight (I
doubt that this is happening, so no nasty letters).

I did take some pictures and should have them back by tuesday. I will
walk by Cb's everyday to see if the memorial grows any and take
pictures as it does. I will be posting those pics in a Dee Dee file
when they are back and scanned.

I know some people are bitter and mad at Dee Dee because of the
circumstances around his death, but you shouldn't be. As Ramones
fans, we know that Dee Dee had problems, he sang about them and he
wrote about them in his books. We won't ever know why he decided to
shoot up, reading interviews with those that knew him well, they are
all pretty much in shock, thinking he had cleaned up. Knowing people
who have been addicted, I know it can be a harsh mistress and
extremely difficult to break free forever. It becomes such a security
blanket that in a way it becomes no different for that person to
shoot up and escape the harsh reality of the day as it is for anyone
to come home after a hard day at work, or just a bad day in general
and make some stiff drinks, as a way to unwind and relax.

In closing, don't be mad at Dee Dee over this, he did
write "outsider", a song which I think summed up his feelings towards
life.If there is a ray of light in this tragedy, it is that Dee Dee
is looking down and realizing just how much people loved him.
Regardless of whether or not it was an accident or deliberate, he is
now in a better place and is at ease. The demons he wrote about have
hopefully ceased.
The world is a better place for having someone like Dee Dee grace us
with his presence. He gave us some great songs and when you
watch "Rock n Roll High School", some great facial expressions as
well.
