Hello, I was thrilled to discover this site. I finally, in my mid
age, have taken the steps to learn to play the guitar. All my life I
have wanted to, (played trumpet in hi-school), and thanks to a very
dear friend, it is now happening.
My friend gave me for my birthday, a Fender acoustic, which she
purchased at "Big Daddy's" in Oklahoma, where Garth Brooks has
purchased several guitars. I knew nothing of how to pick out a
guitar, but when I began taking a few lessons, the instructor was
very impressed at the rich sound of this guitar.
One of the fallbacks, if I may say so, of a total greenhorn taking
lessons, is the thought that until one becomes at least a small
amount proficient , is it not a waste of the beginners money, as well
as the instructors talents? I compare this to taking figure skating
lessons from a top flight instructor, when the student hasn't yet
learned to stand on skates.
I also think that today it is wonderful with the DVD's and sites
such as this, for a beginner to reach a small plateau, and then begin
instruction. I have learnt from this site alone , all of my
fretboard notes, can rhyme them off, and from "The Guitar Handbook",
have learnt the first 12 basic chords.
I now feel that I am ready to seriously study, and learn.
Thanks for the great site
Beth
