The East Coast Music Association Announces Lineups for 2008 Music
Awards Gala and `Rock the Hill' Events

(Fredericton) – The East Coast Music Association announced today the
lineups for the two shows that will open ECMA weekend on Thursday,
February 7th, and close the weekend on Sunday, February 10th. The two
shows bookend the four jam packed days and nights filled with live
East Coast music showcased all over Fredericton during the 2008 East
Coast Music Awards, Festival & Conference.

ECMA and the UNB Student Union presents `Rock the Hill,' which will
take place at the Student Union Building on the UNB campus on
Thursday, February 7th. The cafeteria on the main floor and the
ballroom on the top floor will pump with non-stop music until
closing. The ballroom will feature sets by hey rosetta!, Two Hours
Traffic, the Tom Fun Orchestra, and Slowcoaster, while Wintersleep,
Grand Theft Bus and the Trews will rock out in the cafeteria. One
ticket gets you all of this amazing music, where you can roam the
halls to find your favourite band. The show is open to the public
(19+) and all UNB students (with student ID). Tickets are $25 and $20
for students, taxes included.

The East Coast Music Association is also excited to announce the
lineup for the 20th annual Music Awards Gala, being held on Sunday,
February 10th at the Aitken Centre, also on the UNB campus. The Gala
will feature performances by several ECMA nominees, along with a few
surprises and special treats. The lineup includes The Trews, the Joel
Plaskett Emergency, the Divorcees, the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra,
Jimmy Rankin, the Lapointes, Chris Colepaugh and the Cosmic Crew,
Nathan Wiley, Shanneyganock, Samantha Robichaud and Thom Swift. It
will also include a tribute to Dr. Helen Creighton Lifetime
Achievement Award recipients `1755' by Lennie Gallant and the members
of Ode à l'Acadie. Tickets for the Music Awards Gala are $50 and are
limited, so make sure to get yours early!

Tickets for the ECMA Gala can be purchased at the Aitken Centre box
office, and `Rock the Hill' tickets can be purchased at the Playhouse
box office and at the Paper Trail in the Student Union Building. As
well, tickets for both shows, and all ECMA shows, can be purchased
online at http://www.ecma.com or by phone at (506) 454-ECMA (3262).

"The East Coast Music Association would like to thank the University
of New Brunswick and the UNB Student Union for the successful
partnerships that have been fostered," said Tim Yerxa, 2008 ECMA
event chair. "Three of the largest ECMA shows will take place on the
UNB campus (`Rock the Hill,' the 20th Anniversary Concert and the
ECMA Awards Gala) and we couldn't be happier with the enthusiasm and
cooperation of the UNB team."

Another aspect of the UNB partnership is Radio ECMA, which will be
broadcast from the Delta Hotel lobby and will include all-ECMA
programming, all day and night. This year, Radio ECMA will be
broadcast from CHSR 97.9 FM, the UNB campus radio station. Also, for
several weeks, leading up to the event, CHSR will be broadcasting
East Coast music content in preparation for the big weekend.

"Radio ECMA is a fantastic way to catch that show you missed or tune
in to hear great interviews with East Coast musicians," said
Yerxa. "It's the perfect way to keep your thumb on the pulse if you
can't make it to every event."

The East Coast Music Awards, Festival & Conference is an annual event
organized by the East Coast Music Association. The ECMA is a not-for-
profit organization whose mandate it is to foster, promote and
celebrate East Coast music locally and globally.

The 2008 East Coast Music Awards, Festival & Conference has received
financial support from the Government of Canada, Province of New
Brunswick, and the City of Fredericton. The East Coast Music
Association would also like to acknowledge the financial support of
FACTOR and the Government of Canada through the Department of
Canadian Heritage (Canada Music Fund) and of Canada's private radio
broadcasters.

rosetta!, Two Hours Traffic, le Tom Fun Orchestra, et Slowcoaster,

La distribution inclut The
Trews, the Joel Plaskett Emergency, the Divorcees, the New Brunswick
Youth Orchestra, Jimmy Rankin, the Lapointes, Chris Colepaugh et le
Cosmic Crew, Nathan Wiley, Shanneyganock, Samantha Robichaud et Thom
Swift.

http://www.ecma.com.

Hey Cuukie! Glad to hear you had a great time. We didn't go this
year. I've seen the Christmas show about 6 times now (the stories
don't seem to change year to year). We've been so busy, just didn't
have a chance to go...although I never get tired of hearing Raylene
sing Ave Maria. So Molly was there too? Did she sing?

Concert 2, from Halifax

Jimmy Rankin is one of Canada's most successful songwriters - as the
main tunesmith for the "The Rankin Family" they went on to win a host
of Juno's, ECMA's, Canadian Country and SOCAN awards.... After the band
broke up in 1999, Jimmy Rankin kept on going and has since released
three solo albums. Jimmy is by nature a story teller, which comes right
out of the heart of his Cape Breton roots. We caught up with Jimmy at
the Cohn theatre in Halifax where he performed a real crowd pleasing
set of basically anything the crowd wanted to hear - and he served it
straight up with just him, his guitar and one other musician on stage -
multi instrumentalist Dave McKeough.

The concert will be on CBC Radio 2's "Canada Live" on Wednesday,
December 19th, at 8pm.

Second Cup and the Songwriters Association of Canada Support Emerging
Canadian
Artists

TORONTO, Sept. 24 /CNW/ - The Second Cup Café Music Series returns
this fall to
give coffee drinkers a grassroots musical experience and emerging
Canadian
musicians the exposure they deserve. Now in its second year, the
Songwriters
Association of Canada (S.A.C.) has joined the initiative that will
see emerging
artists as well as feature acts perform at Second Cup cafés
throughout the
country. The program, developed by the Canadian-born and Canadian-run
organization, is Second Cup's way of supporting Canadian singer-
songwriters and
bringing music lovers closer to classic rockers and future stars.

The S.A.C., an association led by active professional and amateur
songwriters,
is committed to the development and recognition of Canadian
songwriters. The
partnership has led to the participation of a number of talented
Canadian
musicians in the Café Music Series, including Jimmy Rankin, Suzie
McNeil, Colin
James Duo, Melissa McClelland, Hayley Sales, Wil, Jill Barber, Ima,
Michael
Kaeshammer, Pascale Picard and Amanda Martinez.

"In addition to being a Canadian singer-songwriter, I am a huge
supporter of
Canadian music," said Jimmy Rankin, one of the program's feature
artists. "I
like what Second Cup and the S.A.C. are doing to help promote
Canadian music
through the Café Music Series. Emerging Canadian musicians have the
opportunity
to show music lovers what they're made of, and established artists
can prove
they can still bring down the coffee house."

Second Cup and the S.A.C. selected the local artists for the Second
Cup Café
Music Series based on their ability to produce meaningful,
provocative,
interesting and melodic music.

Karen Gold, vice president of marketing for Second Cup, said the
musical
initiative is indicative of how much Second Cup cares about
supporting emerging
and established Canadian singer-songwriters.

"Each artist participating in the Café Music Series benefits from
increased
exposure and the opportunity to grow their fan base, and provides our
guests
with an enhanced experience," said Gold. "Second Cup cafés provide
the perfect
warm and cozy atmosphere to sit back, relax and connect with talented
Canadian
musicians and close friends."

Second Cup is also supporting Canadian music on an ongoing basis by
building
and sharing a database of Canadian singer-songwriters with its
franchisees.
Second Cup franchisees nationwide will contact talented local
musicians that
have entered their names into this database, and invite them to
perform for
Second Cup guests and the media. Second Cup is encouraging emerging
Canadian
singer-songwriters who would like to get involved with the Second Cup
Café
Music Series to apply via e-mail to music@....

"Partnering with Second Cup on the Café Music Series initiative was a
natural
fit," said Eddie Schwartz, acting president, Songwriter's Association
of
Canada. "Our goals are aligned with many of Second Cup's goals for
Canadian
music. For example, we both seek to promote Canadian singer-
songwriters, and to
educate Canadians about Canadian songwriters - the people behind
major hits
nationally as well as internationally."

The music begins on September 25, 2007 with the first concert in the
Second Cup
Café Music Series taking place in Toronto. Some of Canada's most
acclaimed
singer-songwriters will perform in 13 Second Cup locations in nine
cities,
including Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, Edmonton and Calgary. Canadian
pop icons
and emerging stars will be bringing popular music back to the
intimate venue
from which it emerged - the coffee house.

About Second Cup

Second Cup is Canada's largest specialty coffee franchisor and
operates more
than 360 cafés across Canada. Serving specialty coffee, food, and
unique and
stylish gift ideas, Second Cup invites Guests to make Second Cup
their Second

Jimmy Rankin's performance is scheduled to be at our Second Cup café
at 165 University avenue in Toronto on October 5th. The café will be
giving away tickets to their Guests. The live, intimate concert is at
8pm. If you are lucky and a few people with tickets do not show up to
the concert by 7:30, you may be able to get in....

Good luck!

Blackie & the Rodeo Kings Train
with Tom Wilson, Colin Linden, Stephen Fearing, Sass Jordan, Barney
Bentall and Jimmy Rankin
Toronto-Vancouver, November 9-13, 2007

Join Stephen Fearing, Tom Wilson and Colin Linden and their friends
Sass Jordan, Jimmy Rankin and Barney Bentall for the trip of a
lifetime across Canada on the rails that built a nation. 70 music
fans and musicians make a rolling music festival in a private section
of Via Rail's legendary CANADIAN from Toronto to Vancouver. Three
days and nights of music on the last great streamliner train still
operating in North America. Open mics and workshops every afternoon
and on-board concerts every evening in our Performance Car, where the
scenery and music never stop.

Our own Skyline dome lounge car, performance car, dining car and
sleepers. Rolling ever Westward, into the setting sun - across the
rugged landscape of the Shield, over the vast expanse of the
Prairies, through the magnificent Canadian Rockies, down the roaring
Fraser River Canyon - over 4,400 kilometers of some of the most
spectacular scenery on earth!
Sleeper accommodations and freshly-prepared meals are provided on
board (as well as a pre-trip show and night in Toronto at the
Fairmont Royal York). There's plenty of room for socializing and song-
swapping; plenty of glass-topped dome seating for taking in the
scenery... and, most importantly, plenty of great music, friendship
and a community you will never forget.
It doesn't matter if you're traveling with friends or going solo, if
you play music or just love listening: join us for an unforgettable
trip on one of the great railway journeys in the world. All aboard!

Hi Cuukie,

We didn't end up staying over. The only hotel rooms we could get
were in Port Huron and Wallaceburg. Sarnia was booked because of
the Ontario Cup Tourney, a baseball tourney and a Lacrosse tourney.
Sarnia is a happening place I tell you!!
