The Community Food Pantry of St. Peter's Haven in Clifton, New hersey  is desperately in need of food.  Our shelves are empty and we have many people asking for food.  The number of pantry clients has greatly increased over the last year and we do not want to turn anyone away due to  lack of food. Right now " The Haven " is feeding well over 500-plus families a month , and many more on an individual basis . We also supply clothing on a limited basis for children and other family members.
Donations of food items such as cereal, pasta, canned vegetables and fruits, peanut butter, soup, beans, rice, tuna, etc. are much needed and would be greatly appreciated.  Food items may be brought to the Haven office Mon-Thurs. between the hours of 9am-noon and 1pm-4:00pm.  Friday from 9am -noon.  Saturday from 9am-11am.  We thank you for your help in our endeavor to feed the hungry.  Please call the Haven office should you have any questions or cannot deliver food during the stated times.  973-546-3406.

Greetings, all - Wanted to let you know about a few things coming up. The full news is posted on our website, NAILMUSIC.COM. Here's what's up:

This Saturday May 10th at 6 pm Neil Alexander will premier a new series of solo electronic music performances entitled "Imagery Of Sound". at the Ann Street Gallery, 104 Ann St in Newburgh NY. This series is primarily meant
for art galleries and openings; this saturday's opening is "100A.D." by Michael Zansky. Here's the official release:

>On Saturday, May 10, 2008, jazz synthesist and local musician Neil Alexander will perform "Imagery of Sound," at the Ann Street Gallery during the artist reception, "100 AD" 6pm-9pm. Mr. Alexander's preview performance of "Imagery of Sound," is part of Mr. Alexander's  planned gallery tour. During each gallery exhibition where Mr. Alexander performs, he will improvise and create unique musical compositions inspired by the work of the visual artist/s on display.  These performances will be captured live to Digital Video and made available to all hosting galleries.
Mr. Alexander is known for his extensive musical vocabulary and use of electronic improvisation to create music that has a strong visual component. As an experienced performer who works in all styles of music, Neil's vocabulary contains elements of jazz, rock, folk, Americana, ambient and 20th century classical music, as well as sound design and Musique Concrete. For more information contact the gallery directly at (845) 562- 6940 x 119.<

Then on Saturday May 17th at 1:30 pm, Neil will again perform solo, this time featuring the music of NAIL as part of the Electric Windows event in Beacon NY. There will be live music from 12 to 6 on the 17th; Neil is scheduled to go on at 1:30 pm. Check the Electric Windows website for details.

Other summer dates include an outdoor electric show at Cafe Mozart in Mamaroneck, on Thursday June 26th; The Newburgh Jazz series 2008 on Wednesday July 9th; a return to Benji & Jakes on Saturday July 12th; and another acoustic show at Justin's in Albany on Friday July 25th.

We have posted the first half of our performance at Moogfest 2007 on You Tube; the second half features our very good friend Herb Deutsch and will be posted shortly. The footage in it's entirety will be posted on NAILMUSIC.COM by the end of the month.

Now - we dislike asking this of you, but it would help keep down your unwanted mail if you would enter your zip code into the mailing list. Click on the "Update Contact Info" link below. Please take a moment, and you won't get emails for out of area events anymore.

A lot's happening - stay in touch. Visit the NAILMUSIC site for the all the latest.

** John Cariddi - guitar & vocals **
**  Don Gardner - drums  **

*********************************************************************
You could say that if you mixed Dr. John, Van Morrison & a pinch of Cajun magic you'd end up with the multitalented DAN DENERSTEIN.........In his 45 year career.....Dan has assembled a huge performance-ready repertoire.......A keyboard player & vocalist who covers genres from reggae to blues to jazz.....Dan has played all over the country as a solo act, sideman & bandleader......His New Orleans R&B band... Slim's Revenge...  has shared the bill with Beausoleil, Buckwheat Zydeco & other nationally-known Louisiana acts........ check out the CD... Slim's Revenge...Live at the Turning Point. As a solo entertainer...  he is & was a familiar presence at "Elaine's" & "Top of the Tower" in NYC...... but... he really misses Mahwah's legendary Nobody's Inn .....where he played on Friday nites for 7 years & became good friends with Don Gardner.
*********************************************************************
JOHN CARIDDI has played the guitar most of his life & attended Fairleigh Dickenson U. & the Manhattan School of Music.  He has been an instructor for Jazz Studies at the Manhattan School & Ramapo College.  John has accompanied Robert Goulet, Vic Damone, Nancy Wilson, Joel Grey, Al Martino, Ricky Lee Jones, Patti Austin, Peggy Lee & recorded & played with Steve Marcus, Pete Levin, Lionel Hampton, Gerry Niewood, Rave Tesar, Don Gardner & many others.  Broadway show appearances include "Play Me a Country Song", "Gospel" & "Jesus Christ Superstar".  He composed musical scores for the movies "Friday the 13th" ,"House", "Spring Break" & "The Shining".  John's distictive guitarwork has been heard on numerous national radio & TV commercials.  Currently, he teaches & appears live in many special event shows & with various Jazz & Rock groups in the Tri-state area........& he's a world renowned Tango dancer!
*************************************************************
DON GARDNER....a creative & intuitive drummer, always dazzles the audience with his chops.....he has this electrically charged spontaneity that brings a burst of excitement to the room.... effortlessly adding an extra spark to the music......& like the musicians above, he has toured the US & Europe, played with or recorded with numerous Rock & Jazz greats including Tom Jones, Mitch Rider & the Detroit Wheels, Lucy Lawless, Grover Kemble, Annie Lenox, Bela Fleck, Suzanne Somers, Sister Sledge, Lesley Gore & more......he's appeared on TV, radio, & in a huge variety of venues from CBGBs to the Rainbow Room, etc, etc.... & more than 20 years ago... the Tuesday nite jazz gig started with Don & Martin Pizzarelli & John Pizzarelli playing together every week...then the Pizzarellis went on the road (drummerless) & Don inherited JazzNite..... Don has invited different musicians every week..... although some do give repeat performances!!!.....Over the years there has been a huge & varied list of talented & well known musicians ranging from Bucky Pizzarelli to Lew Soloff to Dave Tronzo who have made the trip to NJ & now Suffern, NY to participate in this rare venue with Don....many of you have made that trip too!!!.....lucky people!!!........& as I've said many times before.....SOMEDAY....... I'll type up all the names of all of the incredible musicians Don's played with.... but NOT today!  I did it once & who knows when I'll do it again???
******************************************************

***************************************************************

At Caffe Dolce there's no cover charge!!!
& never ever let rain stop you from showing up....... RAIN OR SHINE.... its tented....
its expanded.... & its heated if needed.

Its like nothing else anywhere !!!

Indulge yourself out in the fresh nite air with LIVE MUSIC .....  & there's great food... refreshing drinks... a friendly & fun atmosphere.......

+ PLUS the new outdoor CABANA BAR is open...
complete with cute, talented bartenders ready to shake or stir your favorite cocktails or pour you a glass of wine!
.....& there are big flat panel high-def TVs for you sports fans... & beer of course... !!!
& those wonderful waiters & waitresses are serving Caffe Dolce's fabulous food & desserts!

& the RING OF FIRE fountain will mix fire & water right before your very eyes when your host... Mark McGuy...  presses the magic button & the band breaks into their own hot version of......
Ring of Fire.... of course!! !
               ?
             ?    ?
                ?
          ?        ?     ?
              ?
           ?  ? ?   ?
For those of you reading way down here...........

Well....this really made my day.... & nite..... I just found out I have a secret admirer!  Are you or have you been someone's secret admirer?????  If you tell them.... is it a secret anymore???? or do you become a blatant admirer???? If you are the secret but then you find out..... then its not a secret.......... or maybe he just meant he admires my secrets?  I don't know.... but let's not keep it a secret that I admire YOU & would love to see you Thursday nite as you get out in the fresh air & catch some real live music.....  & maybe some very talented guest performers...... Who will it be????  Its a secret!

I put those mistakes in here just to give those people a thrill who get so much pleasure & satisfaction when they discover them!

This Saturday, May 10th at 7pm  Don Gardner will be playing with LEMON ISIS, one of the acts featured at a fundraiser to help hurricane Katrina survivors rebuild.... yes, they STILL need a lot of help...... at Community Presbyterian Church in Ringwood ..(973)-962-7431.....on Carletondale Rd. ..... ALL proceeds go directly to the cause... adults $10, kids $5, family pack $20.
Then on Sunday... Don's drumming in a church again.... playing with Jeremy Wall, Jay Beckenstein, Tony Cimorosi & the Choir..... at the Mother's Day Service... 10am...... White Plains NY Presbyterian Church.

& Don says THANKS for coming......he loves it when you come!

& this Thursday... you too can join the fun ! ..... & you never know which famous musical geniuses you'll be rubbing elbows with this week!
                      *

This THURSDAY:
**  Dan Denerstein - keys & vocals  **

+ PLUS the new outdoor CABANA BAR is open...
complete with cute, talented bartenders ready to shake or stir your favorite cocktails or pour you a glass of wine!

For those of you reading way down here...........

I thought maybe you'd like to come out & wish Don Gardner a HAPPY BIRTHDAY......Surprise him.... he won't know you're coming ... he never reads this email.....  He's old enough to know better & too old to do something about it... whatever THAT means..... but he started out as a young whippersnapper (that's an ancient descriptive phrase pertaining to drummers) & now...... well.... he's a cranky old curmudgeon (I needed spellcheck for THAT)..... no wait..... that's the wrong guy (doesn't pertain to drummers)..... Don's the young at heart awesome creative drummer...... the one you ought to come out & hear Thursday nite... celebrate his birthday with live music..... that HE supplies for YOUR pleasure...... !
We need A LOT of people to show up to help us countdown his birthyears...... everybody gets to help administer the birthday spanking + the pinch to grow an inch......(especially important when you get old & start shrinking) ... We'll need to fill the tent with a large number of people...... & how about YOU..... can we count on you??????   I'm so glad its not my birthday so people aren't COUNTING on me!

Oh yes.....I did put the mistakes back in here..... it was extra work but worth it to please those people who always look for them & feel so happy when they find them!

& Don says THANKS for coming......he loves it when you come!

OUR SPECIAL GUEST GUITARIST THIS WEEK AT THE BLEND SHOW/JAM WILL BE MELVIN SPARKS
www.myspace.com/themelvinsparksband

You are invited!
Blend-Wednesday May 14th at 8pm. 17 Chestnut St. Ridgewood, NJ www.blendbar.com
Also featuring Singer Nikki Armstrong and the house band - A.J. Hager on Bass, John McCann on drums and Rob Chaseman on sax!

Melvin Sparks is the Essential Guitar Player! He's The Master Of The Groove! The Acid-Jazz Pioneer! The Originator of Soul Jazz, Old School Acid Jazz & BarbecueFunk(FUNKJAZZ)

Over the last thirty years he has played with some of Jazz's greatest musicians: David "Fathead" Newman, Lou Donaldson, Hank Crawford, Reuben Wilson and John Patton (are amongst the many). During the 1970s, Sparks backed up Lou Donaldson on the Funk-Jazz classics "Everything I Play Is Funky" and "Hot Dog".

Sparks recorded seven albums of his own and played on over 100 other albums. As a session man for Blue Note and Prestige Records, Sparks laid his signature guitar work on many other musician's albums without ever being in spotlight. It was during this time that Melvin defined the jazz-guitar sound of a generation.

Melvin Sparks is still a much sought-after studio player, both new and old talents seek him out now more than ever. He continues to perform with the greats of this genre such as Leon Spencer Jr., Mike Clark and Idris Mohammed and is now breaking out his legendary guitar wizardry with many younger bands and artists such as Galactic, The Greyboy Allstars, Karl Denson's Tiny Univers, Derek Trucks and Robert Walter's 20th Congress.

Melvin is geared up to show us all what he does better than anyone else. Groove hard and in the pocket. Melvin Sparks has perhaps the most inspiring and soul-energizing guitar chops on this planet or another. He is admired by many performers, and audiences old and young alike, but continues to be a hidden treasure for music fans worldwide. He is Soul-Jazzy and Funky to the core! .

Richard,

Hope you are well. Saw you briefly at the thruway entrance Saturday night as was reminded of an email you'd forwarded which I can't find, asking for a poet referral. I'd suggest Frank Messina, who lives down in Jersey but is a very successful poet who's worked with David Amram, the Grateful Dead and many others. He's got it down, and I have been working with him on and off since he was in highschool and started sneaking into clubs. Also he was/or is the poet laureate of the New York Mets.

check him out at www.spokeface.com or at 201.739.8295

See you soon,

Richard  Reiter Finds New Home for His "Spiritual Drumming" Workshop

When:  Three Fridays from 8:00 - 10:00 p.m.,  June 27, July 25, August 29

Where: RestStopRejuvenate, 21 Maple Ave., Rockaway, NJ 07866

Contact: Richard  Reiter, 973 857-2557, reiterjazz@...
Nature of Event: Participatory workshop (NOT a performance)

The drum circle movement has exploded and Richard Reiter has become one of the area’s busiest drum circle facilitators, working in schools (with students and faculty), hospitals, corporations, libraries, health spas,  Montclair’s Outpost in the Burbs (for nine years) etc.  Reiter is particularly suited for this mission, with his B.A. in psychology and M.M. in music, his experience as an Emmy Award winning composer and nationally recognized jazz woodwind performer, plus his intense training with Arthur Hull,  one of the world’s premier drum circle facilitators.

And now he has found the ideal home to continue his spiritual mission.  RestStopRejuvenate is a new wellness center located at 21 Maple Avenue, Rockaway, NJ 07866 (973 985-7548, info@...). Vicky Mulligan and her sister Dorie Francis say their beautiful center “is designed to foster wellness by counteracting and transforming life’s daily stress.  Our serene atmosphere offers you a place to relax and unwind.”   They offer classes, meditation stations, aroma inhalation bar, entertainment, and now Richard Reiter’s Spiritual Drum Circle.

Reiter will lead his participatory workshop on the last Fridays of June, July and August:  June 27, July 25, August 29.  Drumming is from 8:00 – 10:00 p.m.  Cost is just $10 which includes free light snacks and beverages. Reiter brings many drums for everyone to use, but participants are also encouraged to bring their own drums and percussion instruments. Reiter emphasizes that this workshop does not focus on complicated drumming patterns and that it is not necessary to have had any musical training.  Beginners feel as welcome as experienced drummers. Reiter’s web site is www.RichardReiter.com.
Driving on Route 80, take exit 37 “Rockaway Hibernia”;  turn right at light onto Route 513 south; after going through a light, the road narrows;  make the next left (across from BP Gas station that is on the right) onto Union—Union quickly changes its name to Jackson;  go short distance and turn right onto Maple;  go short distance and the center is on the right in a stone building just past a brick police station – there is plenty of free parking.
Reiter studied African drumming with master drummer Sidy Sankhare in Dakar, Senegal, and recently traveled to Tanzania and South Africa. Spiritual Drumming helps people learn about themselves, experience a closeness with their fellow drummers, relieve stress, and feel more exuberant about being powerfully alive.

RE: SUMMER TOUR SCHEDULE

Hi, Everyone!  Well, summer's here and the time is right…to hit the road! J  We've got a lot of great regional festivals and shows, as well the Big 3 Motorcycle Rally in Laconia, New Hampshire, & another tour across to Ohio & on down to Florida.  In between gigs we've been writing and recording feverishly, & are bringing these new songs into the show to prepare for recording later this Fall.

In other news, there are new pics & press on the myspace  & web sites, we received an endorsement deal, & we have new musicians aboard!  As most of you know, Gil & Marc have session work they cannot leave NYC for, and Vonnie is the hardest working bass man we know, pulling down a serious day gig.  They will still be doing many of the regional shows with us.  We are saddened to let you all know that drummer, Joe Piteo, is sidelined for the summer getting a knee replacement operation.  We wish him a speedy recover & healthy knees!!

Welcome to Dave Moore, Jared Kahn, & Alvin Harrison, who will be touring this summer with us!  Please come out to welcome these guys aboard!  We can't wait to see you wherever we go... As always, we're grateful for all the love and support you continually show us.  We deeply appreciate you – without you, none of this would be meaningful.  THANK YOU!!

For Immediate Release

May 18, 2008

Richard  Reiter Now Has Two Homes for His "Spiritual Drumming" Workshop

FIRST HOME:
When: Three Sundays from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.—June 22, July 13, August 24

Where: First Congregational Church, 40 South Fullerton Ave., Montclair, NJ

Contact: Joyce Mauer (973) 744-6560
Nature of Event: Participatory workshop (NOT a performance)
SECOND HOME:

For nine years Reiter has led his monthly drum circle for Montclair's Outpost in the Burbs, at the First Congregational Church, 40 South Fullerton Avenue, Montclair, NJ--Call (973) 744-6560 or visit www.outpostintheburbs.org.  The response continues to be so positive that the Outpost has scheduled three more Sunday sessions from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.:  June 22, July 13, August 24.  Adults and mature teenagers are invited. The cost is just $7; including refreshments.
And now he has found a second home to continue his spiritual mission.
At RestStopRejuvenate, Reiter will lead his participatory drumming on the last Fridays of June, July and August:  June 27, July 25, August 29.  Drumming is from 8:00 – 10:00 p.m.  Cost is just $10 which includes free light snacks and beverages. As with the Outpost, adults and mature teenagers are invited.
At both venues, Reiter brings many drums for everyone to use, but participants are also encouraged to bring their own drums and percussion instruments. Reiter emphasizes that his drum circle does not focus on complicated drumming patterns and that it is not necessary to have had any musical training.  Beginners feel as welcome as experienced drummers.  Reiter says “During the first part of the drumming, I teach technique and basic rhythms, and then we just have fun drumming!  Of course, I continue to guide the new drummers so they feel comfortable.”
Reiter’s passion for drumming began when he studied with master drummer Sidy Sankhare in Dakar, Senegal, and recently he traveled to Tanzania and South Africa for more inspiration and training. Reiter is excited by how Spiritual Drumming helps people learn about themselves, experience a closeness with their fellow drummers, relieve stress, and feel more exuberant about being powerfully alive. Reiter’s web site is www.RichardReiter.com.
