Tim Deal is a Saxophonist who resides in Champaign, Illinois. Tim was born and grew up in Champaign-Urbana. In 1999, upon high school graduation, Tim joined the US Marine Corps as a Marine Musician. In this role, he gained many valuable opportunities to travel and pursue his musical interests. Tim has performed abroad in Japan, Thailand, South Korea, Australia, Italy and Guam.

After his 4-year stint in the Marines, Tim returned home to Champaign-Urbana to pursue his education. He also started his own jazz band, comprised of some of the areas' finest musicians.

The Tim Deal Quartet consists of professional jazz musicians, all based in the Champaign-Urbana area. The group began in 2003 with the goal of bringing great jazz music to the surrounding community of Central Illinois. The band features an outstanding rhythm section, the members of which are all professional individuals who contribute greatly to the local artistic culture. Tom Paynter, pianist and flautist, has his Ph.D. in Music Composition from the University of Chicago, has composed extensively, and plays in several area groups. Ben Taylor, bassist, runs a recording studio out of his home and also plays frequently in several different ensembles as well. Mark McKnight, outstanding jazz drummer, has a Masters Degree in Music from Florida State University, is currently in pursuit of his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, and has performed with several internationally renown jazz artists.
