Plenty Of Projects In The Works For Rob Thomas
June 8, 2006
Rob Thomas
Rob Thomas' summer is already filled up with a co-headlining tour
alongside Jewel, but the singer will have a number of things to keep
him occupied when he gets off the road. In the works are his own
record label, a live DVD, producing other artists and of course, a
reunion with his matchbox twenty bandmates.
Thomas tells Billboard that his label plans are still a bit fuzzy
and unofficial at this point, but "I've got an artist I'm really
behind that I'm going to start working with when I get off the
road." While still on the road, Thomas will film a live concert DVD
at his June 28 gig at Red Rocks and says he's had a ball touring
with Jewel. "We've just been having a really nice time hanging out
and bullsh*tting after the shows," Thomas says. "And during the
shows we hang on each other's side-stage watching each other. It's
been very cool." The two have been performing a duet of Tom Petty &
Stevie Nicks' hit "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" at their concerts.
As for matchbox twenty's next album, Thomas admits that the
band "don't readily know where we're all at," after guitarist Adam
Gaynor left the group last year. "I think it's just going to be
about getting in the studio and drinking a bunch of beers and
jamming for awhile and being a band again," he told Billboard. "I
don't want to write anything for [matchbox twenty] until I get
together with the guys and see where our heads are at."
