Allison,
inexpensive is something you may not find in Ireland these days. I'm sure it's
relative and you may find less expensive places. I believe there is a hostel in
Abbeyfeale, and many of the young musicians would stay there. I've heard stories
of 20 people in one room, and sessions that went on all night long, but I've
never been there, and am not sure where it is relative to the town center.
Leen's Hotel is in the center of town, where alot of people stay, and they have
sponsored sessions in the past. It's no five star hotel, but is passable, but I
think you would spend as much as one of the local bed and breakfasts. One of the
bars had rooms above that seemed cheaper than some of the going rates, can't
remember which one, it might be O'Rourkes, but I think it would be less than
scenic, shall we say.
My favorite place to stay has always been Park Lodge, in fact I don't think I've
stayed anywhere else. Their rates are comparable to any of the b and b's in the
area, and the accomadations are first rate, and only exceeded by the good nature
of the propreitors. The Brown's have hosted a number of bone player contenders
including Yirdy Macher, Ronnie McShane, Gail (can't remember her last name) and
myself. They are about a mile outside of the town center on the Kilarney Road,
which was like an oasis to me, a place to truely rest and get out of the fray.
You probably want to move quickly Allison as I'm sure the throngs will once
again be invading. Feel free to contact me off line,
bones@...
take care, have a marvelous trip,
Steve Brown

Subject: [rhythm bones] Advice for Fleadh on the Feale
I know it is getting late to decide this, but....
Those of you who have been to Abbeyfeale, any advice on inexpensive places to
stay?
Thank you,
Allison
