Abbeyfeale and the one handed style of bones playing   Message List

Hey Everyone, I've been back from Abbeyfeale and the All Ireland for
a while now and I've been doing some thinking about the one handed
style versus two handed style. I saw some incredible players over
there, Paddy Sport of course, but booth Paddy Donovan and David
Murphy impressed me. I've come to the conclusion that the Irish style
of bone playing is more musical or more keyed into the music than our
typical American style. I certainly don't mean tha in a negative way
but the players themselves seem more invested and attached to this
particular music, where as American players tend to go from one kind
of music to another. And if any one is under the impression that
using two hands is automaticly better than using one just look at the
out come, out of 16 players, 4 two handed and the rest one, only one
placed in the top 4, in addition if you listen closely to one handed
players like Mel Mercier (oops he's playing with two now) Tommy
Hayes, Peadar Mercier, Ronnie McShane, Cathy Jordan, or are lucky
enough to see Paddy Sport play you get a sense of the intracacies a
one handed player can get. So any thoughts about this out there? take
care Steve Brown
