Brother Bones CD: Beware!   Message List

Re: [rhythm bones] Brother Bones CD: Beware!

I have to agree with the copy right protection of the Brother Bones content.
If you download, listen to or burn a CD copy to listen in your car, you
have the permission to do so based on the court's judgement on delayed
listening similar to VCR tape recordings. But you definately can not just
burn a copy of the music and sell it. I applaud Scott for going through the
proper channels to provide legally sellable copies.

Yes, you can listen to the songs online. But raising an alarm is not
warranted unless someone is selling illegal copies.

You must know that Globetrotters theme song is definately still copy
protected. As for quality, there may be real difficulty in getting older
music analog sources sampled for computer digital quality. Only those who
work with the source for sampling can tell you if the quality is as good as
it gets. I would bet the internet distributed quality is less than what
Scott is providing.

Think about Circled By Hounds' music presentation on myspace.com. They
allow you to download sample tracks. They're great for listening,
downloading, but don't you dare burn a CD and sell it without having their
permission and pay royalties for the work. Sure, tell others about the link
where they can listen to it. That's the idea of providing sample tracks, it
brings people to the web page. Hopefully they like the music enough to buy
a CD.

I share Jeff's desire for wanting high fidelity recordings
of vintage bones players. In fact, I would really like to
see a top quality audio CD of Brother Bones or Ted Goon
records from the 40s and 50s that a hard nosed audiophile
would love. Wouldn't you?

But as someone who sold "Globetrottin' With Bones"' CDs at
Bones Fest X this summer, and who is gearing up to launch an
online musical bones store that will offer the Globetrottin'
CD (hopefully before Christmas), and who is working on a
special promotion that includes the Globetrottin' CD, I was
somewhat dismayed to hear a less than perfect review of
the CD.

Mind you, I have no complaint about Jeff or his report. In
fact I applaud him for sounding the alarm about any issue
that is important to our bone playing community.
