With all due respect, it appears you missed this message (posted
to this list on January 8, 2005, and still in the archive):
"Big News About Our
Community
As you may be aware, the
RhythmXchange community has gone through some big changes in the past
year, biggest among them being the changing role of our founder,
Patter Hatfield. While Patter will remain an important
member of our group, all recognize that it is an evolving community,
rather than the group he started a couple of years ago. For that
reason, we wish to respect his request to maintain his RhythmXchange
name for other purposes. And that gives us the opportunity to
create a new name for ourselves. Please give it thought and come
next Monday with your ideas on a new name for our group."
In addition to that, a list of 25 names was placed in
consideration by about 4 of us and you were invited to vote on those
online just prior to the event on the 10th. A final vote will
take place in the next week, with a notice coming to you by email.
Please respond and participate in the vote!
All I can do is put it out there. It's regretful that some
messages are missed. I hope this is affirming that I'm doing
what I can as the communications hub. You may also notice that I
am not restricting messages just to my own these days. What we
decide to do as a group belongs to the group, informal and chaotic as
it may be.
Peace,
Bobby G.
If you aren't pleased with the process, or you have a better suggestion, please let me know by this coming weekend. Thanks.
It's exactly that the process was not put out there as to what it was or would be that gives me cause to pause.
I love the idea that we are a community and am willing to participate in that community.
I also know and agree that the people that are doing the work and participating get to have the voice about
content and process.
So, in this case I was puzzled that some decisions were put out to the community before the community was
informed that there were decisions to be made. For example, the fact that the name "rhythmXchange" is
being retained by Patter and the subsequent list of new names to choose from.
I simply feel that the community was not in the loop. I am not saying that there would have been
any different decisions made.
We have a real opportunity here to work together in ways that we are all heard.
At this time of man, I personally feel that we need to do this more than ever and
that communication is the KEY!
