Hey!
As I mentioned last week, Friday, February 4th, Wade Paterson and his
performance group Rhythm Village will be hosting an event at La Pena
Cultural Center in Berkeley.
The mebers of Rhythm Village are world-class percussionists who have played
with Santana, Indigo Girls, Joan Baez, and Mickey Hart. Their unique
approach with interactive rhythm, song, and dance will create an
unforgettable experience. The members of the band include Wade Peterson,
Anna Sterns, Gabe Harris, Sean Araneda, Elsu Martin and Tobin Mayell. Their
first special guest is KEMOKO SANO from Guinea, choreographer from Les
Ballet Africains and Les Merveilles D'Afrique, master dancer, master drummer
& master KRIN (wood slit-drum) specialist. Also performing is MOHAMMED
KOUYATE, griot from Guinnea, playing balaphone.
The show starts at 8pm. The ticket price is $14 for general admission, $12
for students. Tickets are available at the box office about 30 minutes prior
to showtime. Plenty of parking is available two blocks west of La Peña at
the Ashby BART station.

Directions to La Peña
From San Francisco & Peninsula:
Cross the Bay Bridge and take Highway 80 eastbound to Ashby. Follow Ashby
about 1.5 miles, then turn right on Shattuck and proceed three blocks to La
Peña at 3105 Shattuck Ave.
From the South Bay:
Take Highway 880 northbound to 980 in Oakland. When 980 turns into Highway
24 East, take the next exit: 51st Street. Stay in the right lanes of the
off-ramp, and turn right onto 52nd Street, then immediately left onto
Shattuck Ave, and proceed one mile to La Peña at 3105 Shattuck Ave.
For those of you who want to carpool/caravan, please contact me either by
email or (650) 312-8654. We would like to get over the bridge early, so we
are planning to leave San Mateo at 4:00. If you would like to meet up for
dinner before the performance, let me know that too! There is a cafe at the
Cultural Center that opens at 5:30 and offers a variety of latin foods. Do
you know of other choices in the area? I think once you find a place to
park, you may not want to move your car!
Also, please bring a drum as this is a participative event.
Namaste...Laurie
