CREEKSIDE MUSICFEST - JULY 30TH
ROWAN BROTHERS, ORRIN STAR, OUTPATIENTS,
SOUTH MT. STRING BAND & CLOGGERS, DAVID REID LAFLEUR, ANDY & DENISE
Music will fill the air Saturday, July 30th at the Creekside MusicFest in Bunker Hill, WV. The fest will take place from 2pm to 8pm at Bunker Hill Antique's lovely Creekside Park located at 144 Runnymeade Road, right next-door to the antiques mall. Admission is $20/at the gate with children 12 and under FREE. Festivalgoers should bring a lawn chair or blanket and are welcome to bring a picnic. Food will be available for purchase, also. The fest goes on rain or shine, as the music will be moved indoors in case of inclement weather.
The Creekside MusicFest will feature The Rowan Brothers, Orrin Star, The Outpatients, South Mountain String Band with the Rock Candy Cloggers, David Reid LaFleur, and Andy and Denise. MusicFest producer, Cheryl Mansley, is excited about this day of music for the community.
Mansley has been producing the Shepherdstown, WV based RiverHouse Concerts for several years now and has succeeded in bringing artists from all over the world to her "down home style" concert series. RiverHouse shows include a family-style dinner before the show, which gives guests and artists a chance to meet. "Bringing folks together to share a meal and listen to music is a great thing," says Mansley. "People's lives are so busy these days. It's good for everyone's heart and soul to come together like this."
Mansley's love of community and music is very strong. Besides her concert series and the Creekside MusicFest, she has helped produce many other events, including the Mountain Stage NewSong Festival, which will take place this August 24th to 28th in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.
The Creekside MusicFest will kick off with The
Next up will be folk duo Andy & Denise, who are known for their well crafted songs and beautiful harmonies. Andy Fox plays acoustic guitar and Denise O'Brien plays acoustic bass. The two wed just last month, so it's no surprise that the charisma between them is instantly apparent!
David Reid LaFleur, a consummate entertainer and high energy roots artist, follows. LaFleur is a gifted musician on dobro, guitar, dulcimer, and mandolin. His love of music is so strong that two years ago he gave up a lucrative career as a nuclear engineer to pursue his dream of becoming a full-time musician. So these days, instead of getting up early to head to an office or a control room, he gets up, checks his gig calendar, walks his dog, loads a multitude of instruments into the car, and heads to his first gig of the day.
Then, The Outpatients, takeover the stage. This fantastic newgrass and rhythm/blues band - notorious for it's three part harmonies, blazing instrumentals, and toe tapping acoustic mayhem - features Steve Cifala, Jamie Daly, and Rob Receveur. This set will be the "shake, rattle, and roll" portion of the day.
After The Outpatients, it's time for famous flatpicker and funnyman, Orrin Star. Starr is a former National Flat-Picking Champion and Prairie Home Companion Alum whose style is described as "Arlo Guthrie-meets-Doc Watson."
The day will end with
The Rowan Brothers. Both brothers are renowned singer-songwriters and multi-instrumentalists whose music is reminiscent of the Everly Brothers, but with a splash of b
