The Vocal Duo "Little Maggie" returns to Beans in the Belfry

Climb aboard at Beans in the Belfry on Saturday, February 25th with the vocal duo Little Maggie for a trip back in time, where the songs are old as the hills and the singin' is fresh as mornin' dew.  Together, Mary Dailey and Cheryl Mansley combine delightful harmonies and captivating dynamics to create lilting, heartfelt renditions of traditional Appalachian and Celtic folksongs.

But, they don’t stop there!  Adding a healthy dose of contemporary and original material, with guitar, mountain dulcimer, recorders and percussion, the pair moves easily from introspective musings to candid emotion, from dark themes to "seriously wacky" playfulness.  Whether it’s a sweet love song, haunting a cappella ballad, frolicking instrumental, humorous ditty or a moving spiritual, Little Maggie's colorful and endearing performance will make you glad you’re along for the ride.

When Mary Dailey moved to West Virginia in 1978 she volunteered at the Appalachian South Folklife Center. There she heard traditional mountain music played with fiddles, banjos, and lap dulcimers.  And, she heard songs that told tales of love, death, coal mining, freedom and the human spirit. These songs left a lasting impression, and their Celtic influences resonated deeply within her own Irish roots. It was "love at first sound," she says.  Eventually, the music of working class minstrel Woody Guthrie inspired Mary as a writer and performer "not to become rich or famous, but just to make the world a better place."  Mary is also a member of Whippoorwill Dulcimer Duo and the South Mountain String Band.

Founder of the RiverHouse Concerts, Cheryl Mansley has loved music ever since she was a child when she would sing along with recordings, that her father brought home, of Walt Disney movie soundtracks.  Later, as the mother of three musically talented sons, she enjoyed improvising vocally with their musical creations.  As long as she can remember, she has carried the dream of creating a live music venue where friends and family could gather to enjoy music in a festive but intimate setting.  In 2000 she began to make that dream a reality by establishing the RiverHouse Concerts, which have consistently delighted audiences with an amazing array of local and international talent.  Now, along with producing the RiverHouse concerts - with the help of the RiverHouse Gypsy Gang, she is greatly enjoying the opportunity to play music herself.

So, come join in the fun, February 25th from 7:00pm to 9:00pm, at Beans in the Belfry, with Little Maggie.  Beans in the Belfry, a enchanting coffeehouse, is located at 122 West Potomac Street in Brunswick, Maryland.  For directions to Beans in the Belfry call the coffeehouse at 301-834-7178.  For more information, contact Little Maggie at 304-702-0554 or LittleMaggie@...
