The CELTIC PARLIAMENT to Perform at the BLUE MOON CAFE
Sunday, April 8th at 7pm, The Celtic Parliament will appear at the Blue Moon Cafe in Shepherdstown, WV. The Celtic Parliament performs songs and stories from the British and Irish Isles, with John Doyle "at the helm."
Doyle, known to many in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia for his political talent, is also a singer and guitarist. Doyle has been singing Irish and Scottish songs for over thirty years. He has appeared in many of the Celtic music venues in the Washington, D.C. environs, including Ireland’s Four Provinces, The Dubliner, The Royal Mile and Tammany Hall, and has opened for the fabulous Emmylou Harris. Doyle currently serves in the West Virginia House of Delegates. His rich knowledge of Celtic history enriches The Celtic Parliament performances.
Terry Tucker started her musical career in England, where she wrote, performed and recorded music for film, radio and television. Record companies and broadcasters such as BBC, Oxford University Press, Leader Sound Records, Decca, and Warner Brothers all promoted her music. Now that she resides in the US, her songs and music can be heard on National Public Radio. Tucker’s work has been published - in a great variety of places and settings, such as the Kubrick film, A Clockwork Orange. Nowadays, besides composing for and performing with the band Treehouse, she teaches and writes.
Tucker self produced her latest CD "Comin' Home," and for Christmas 2007 plans to release "Ancient Ayres & Carols for Christmas," which she produced with Ardyth Gilbertson. She has also created songs from the poems of two 19th Century Jefferson County poets. A CD of these songs, "The Bedinger Collection," is forthcoming. Her music can be found, as well, on "A Clockwork Orange" soundtrack and "The Sound of Sunforest." With The Celtic Parliament, Tucker sings and plays alto recorder, talking drum, autoharp, and sometimes keyboard.
Jim Steptoe is known in the country music community as the virtuoso banjo player with the popular and respected bluegrass group, Patent Pending. Steptoe got into bluegrass music by way of the folk music revival while attending college in Philadelphia. He attended weekly jam sessions and began playing Irish music on the autoharp and banjo. After finishing college he decided to take a year off before going to law school, so he returned home to Martinsburg, West Virginia and directed his efforts toward learning to play the bluegrass banjo. Later, while attending law school in Morgantown, West Virginia, Steptoe met and began playing music with guitarist Rusty Williams. The two played for several years with Mountain Grass and recorded one album. Eventually he left the group and moved back to Martinsburg where he is currently a lawyer.
