JENNIE AVILA and ANDREA HINES bring beautiful music to Blue Moon Cafe
Sunday, April 29 at 7pm, Jennie Avila and Andrea Hines will bring their beautiful music to the Blue Moon Cafe's "Blue Moon Sundays" Concert Series in Shepherdstown, WV. Singer-songwriter Jennie Avila will perform with drum maker STEPHEN WRIGHT as their duo Aca-Perco. Avila and Wright coined the word Aca-Perco to describe the energizing collaboration of Avila’s vocal talents and Wright’s percussion. As Aca-Perco, they perform with Wright’s handmade ceramic drums, Jennie’s snake-like kokiriko, a conga and guitar.
Jennie Avila is a Smithsonian Fast Folk Artist and a Wolf Trap Teaching Artist. She has eight recordings to her credit, and a documentary of her life was featured on Art Beat. She returns annually to the Philadelphia area and the New Jersey Teen Arts Festival where she presents songwriting workshops. Avila is a touring performer with international airplay and is also a member of the popular Maryland based trio, Hot Soup.
A featured artist in Barry Hall’s new book, “From Mud To Music,” Stephen Wright has established himself as a premier drum maker. His masterpiece instruments are played by top percussionists around the world. Many fans recall his rock solid drumming for The Blue Comets.
Singer-songwriter Andrea Hines has performed with The Paul Hill Chorale in Washington DC and New York City. These days she performs with the three-person a capella group, MoonStruck and the war-time, harmony swing band, The CorSettes. And, because she lives in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, a town lucky enough to be inhabited by numerous extremely talented musicians, she also performs in ever-changing configurations with her many talented musician pals.
Besides performing, she is a sought after studio musician whose singing and piano playing can be heard on numerous artists' recordings. Hines is currently producing a new CD of her latest songs - a blend of pop folk with a hint of old-time country and a touch of jazz, an eclectic mix that lilts and sways like a pleasant dance. Love songs are her specialty, with a truthfulness that evokes thoughts old world romance.
Hines will perform with husband DAVE HINES on percussion, TODD COYLE on guitar, and KATHLEEN MCLAUGHLIN on piano, as well as LAURA FIRST, of Singin' the Bones, who will add her angelic harmonies to the mix. This group right here is a perfect example of the versatility and talent of the Shepherdstown musicians.
