CAM MILLAR JAZZ ENSEMBLE @ Blue Moon Cafe, Sunday, October 21

Cam Miller Jazz Ensemble to Perform at Blue Moon Cafe

October 21st the Cam Millar Ensemble will be in concert at the Blue Moon Cafe in Shepherdstown, WV.  A trombonist and native of Canada, Millar's original jazz compositions have been heard on CBC's Jazz Radio Canada, as well as the Calgary and Edmonton International Jazz Festivals.  Millar has appeared in big bands led by Bob Brookmeyer, Maria Schneider, Doc Severinson, Vince Giordano (NYC), Lew Anderson (NYC) and many others, including an evening subbing in the Count Basie Orchestra.

He can be heard playing all styles of music with many local West Virginian musicians and is currently an adjunct professor at Shepherd University teaching composition, sound design, and recording techniques.  He also teaches Music Appreciation/History at Blue Ridge Tech College in Martinsburg, WV.  His original film scores include work for the US National Park Service, numerous independent film producers, and modern dance choreographers in DC and NYC.

The Cam Millar Ensemble will be featuring Mark Cook on keyboards.  As a jazz pianist, Cook performs extensively throughout the region, as well as with the Shepherd University Faculty Jazz Trio and his own group, Set Theory.  Cook's latest CD, Prime Form, has received critical acclaim.

Cook has performed with Bill Potts, Chris Vadala, Jamey Aebersold, Vaughn Nark, Tim Eyermann's East Coast Offering, Mike Crotty and Deater O'Neill, Rufus Reid, Bob James, J.R., Monterose and many others.  He has also played exactly four choruses of the blues with the legendary Al Cohn.

Formerly the Director of Jazz Studies at Shepherd University, Cook now serves as Director of Music Theory and Composition and continues to serve on the Jazz Faculty.  He has also taught at Towson University, Catholic University of America and Montgomery College.

Doors open at 5:30pm; show begins at 7:00pm.  Concert admission for this show is $5/student for Shepherd University students with a valid student ID and $12/person for the general public.  Admission is paid at the door.

Dinner (served from 6pm to 7pm), drinks and light fare are available for purchase at all Blue Moon Sundays concerts.  To make a reservation, call the Blue Moon Cafe at 304-876-1920.  The Blue Moon Cafe is located on North Princess Street, at the corner of Princess and High in Shepherdstown WV.  For more information, contact Cheryl Mansley at 304-702-0554 or bluemoonsundays@....  Or, visit the Blue Moon website at www.bluemoonshepherdstown.com.
