AMY SPEACE & THE TEARJERKS @ Blue Moon Cafe, Sunday, October 28   Message List

Amy Speace & the Tearjerks to Perform at Blue Moon Cafe

On tour with her band The Tearjerks, Amy Speace is playing tracks from her album Songs for Bright Street.  Both on the album and live, New York-based singer/songwriter Amy Speace demonstrates why she's quickly become one of her adopted hometown's most celebrated emerging artists and Judy Collins “Favorite New Artist.”  Sunday, October 28th, Speace and her band will be in concert at the Blue Moon Cafe in Shepherdstown, WV.

Possessing a commanding voice, a distinctive melodic sensibility and an uncanny knack for nailing complex emotions in song, Speace makes music that's both illuminating and effortlessly accessible.  Often compared to artists like Emmylou Harris and Lucinda Williams, Speace emerged in 2006 with her Wildflower Records debut, Songs For Bright Street, which was produced by James Mastro (The Bongos, Ian Hunter) and is graced by guest appearances by The Jayhawks‚ Gary Louirs, E Street Band fiddler Soozie Tyrell and folk singer Cliff Eberhardt.  The album spent 3 months in the Top 10 of Folk Radio and 20 weeks in the Top 10 of the Roots Americana Charts.

Folk/pop icon Judy Collins, owner of Wildflower Records, calls Speace one of her “favorite new songwriters,” and has invited her to join her onstage in concerts across the US.  Nominated as “Emerging Artist of the Year” by the International Folk Alliance, Speace was also honored with a Hemi Award for "Listener's Favorite Song" by WIVK FM in Knoxville, TN (which just happens to be the station that broke Dolly Parton).  As well, her song "The Real Thing” was nominated for “Best Country Song of 2006” by the IMA and “Double Wide Trailer” was featured on NPR’s “Car Talk."

Blessed with a transparent voice that can hush a room with its crystalline grace and equally growl and hiss like a rocker, Speace is a natural performer, easy, charming and drop-dead funny.  She isn't the innocent, sweet-looking folkie girl with a guitar she might appear to be.  She grew up on Hank, Patsy, Waylon, Willie and Johnny.  A stage actress with the National Shakespeare Company who has acted off-Broadway, she is no stranger to the stage and seeps with artistic pizzazz.

After a few years on the folk scene, Speace put down the Taylor, picked up the Gibson, and put together her hotshot band The Tearjerks with dueling guitar players James Mastro handling the rock, and Rich Feridun chicken-picking like no man from Jersey should, rounded out by Brooklyn bass player Matt Lindsey and "drummer-about-town" Jagoda.

She and her band have been on a non-stop US Tour, playing clubs, cafes and festivals, sharing the stage with Little Feat, Phil Vassar, Heartland, Alejandro Escovedo and others.  Don't miss this "Woman Who Rocks!"  Doors open at 5:30pm; show begins at 7:00pm.  Concert admission for this show is $12/person.  Admission is paid at the door.
Dinner (served from 6pm to 7pm), drinks, full menu and light fare are available for purchase at all Blue Moon Sundays concerts.  To make a reservation, call the Blue Moon Cafe at 304-876-1920.  The Blue Moon Cafe is located on North Princess Street, at the corner of Princess and High in Shepherdstown WV.  For more information, contact Cheryl Mansley at 304-702-0554 or bluemoonsundays@....  Or, visit the Blue Moon website at www.bluemoonshepherdstown.com.  To learn more about Amy Speace & the Tearjerks, visit www.amyspeace.com.
