Jennie Avila:
Jennie Avila's music is sexy, spiritual and bluesy, full of metaphors and sung with grace and passion.  She sings original songs with an energizing presence and accompanies herself with acoustic guitar, conga drum, and kokirikko (an instrument that resembles a snake vertebrae) and exotic hand percussion. Jennie brings an incredible magnetism to the stage. Her earthly voice swings agiley from muddy earth growls to mystic ethereal whispers with heart touching lyrics that stir the soul.

Avila's latest solo cd, "Naked in the Rain", showcases original songs dedicated to all courageous women and their journeys. A portion of the proceeds of Naked in the Rain go to benefit "A Womans Place", the battered women's shelter of Bucks County, PA.

In the summer of 2004, Jennie joined the Maryland based folk trio, HOT SOUP. Along with Christina Muir and Sue Trainor, Hot Soup serves up a delicious mix of melodies and harmonies.  Check out Hot Soup at www.hotsouptrio.com.

Simultaneously, Avila created "Aca-Perco", a duo with master drum maker, Stephen Wright. Their performances feature Avila's vocals, her collection of international percussion instruments and Stephen's unique handmade ceramic drums. Find out more at www.WrightHandDrums.com and www.Aca-Perco.com.  Steve will be joining Jennie at this show.

Kipyn Martin:

Kipyn Martin, a Jefferson County, WV, native, is a music major at Shepherd University. Though the past few years have been occupied by her studies, she continues to write and perform her own songs.  After high school graduation, Cheryl Mansley, founder of the RiverHouse Concerts, invited Martin to open for a few shows.  In doing so, Martin met acoustic blues artist, Pops Walker.  Since then, she and Pops have shared many a stage.  A devout musician, Martin enjoys all aspects of music creation and loves to play!  She has been compared to artists such as Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell, but is developing her own unique style as she continues down her musical path.  She's spellbinding on stage and has "what it takes!"

Lisa Lafferty:

These days, Lisa Lafferty, singer-songwriter and longtime host of the Mecklenburg Inn's Tuesday night open mics, is recording a new CD of all original music with her husband Sam Janata, friends Don Oehser, Matt Lewis, and Jessie Shultzaberger, as well as others.  Lafferty is a powerful singer with a sultry voice.  Mansley first saw Lafferty years ago when she was but a "sprite" performing at a venue in Maryland.  Mansley was taken with her commanding stage presence, charisma and mesmerizing voice and over the years has enjoyed every chance she gets to hear her.  There is no one in these parts who can sing like Lafferty.

Terry Tucker & Ardyth Gilbertson:

When Terry Tucker and Ardyth Gilbertson sing, their voices blend as one.  Their love and respect for Mother Earth and all living creatures inspires many of Tucker's original songs.  Fans have come to appreciate this, as well as their vocal harmonies and distinctive arrangements of traditional songs.  Tucker’s songs reflect her classical music education, Appalachian roots, English, Irish and Cherokee Indian ancestry.  And, Gilbertson adds influence from her Norwegian and Menominee Indian roots.  Both are members of the band Treehouse, which they co-founded.

Music has been Tucker's life's work.  She started her musical career in England, where she wrote, performed, and recorded music for film, radio, and television.  Nowadays, besides composing for Treehouse, Tucker also teaches and writes.  Much of her work has been published - in a great variety of places and settings, such as A Clockwork Orange, the famous cult movie of the l970s.  Gilbertson’s lovely singing voice is rooted in country and jazz.  In the late 90’s, she performed with her jazz trio, The Ardyth Ensemble.  She is also an actress.

Admission to the concert is $15.00 at the door.  Student admission is half-price.  Doors open at 5:30pm; show begins at 7:00pm.  Food and drinks are available for purchase at all Blue Moon Sundays concerts.  For reservations call the Cafe at 304-876-1920.
