The Blue Comets & Darren Beachley and the Maryland Line to Appear at the Shepherdstown Opera House

This Friday, August 6th, The Shepherdstown Opera House will present the jump blues and swing quartet, The Blue Comets. The  band, which was formed in 1992, has released two cds - "Get Off My Blue Comet Tail" a ten song, all original CD, and "Swing Set", a live recording of cover songs regularly played by the band. The group has received air play across the US.

THE BLUE COMETS cover main stream swing classics, such as Louis Prima's "Jump Jive n' Wail" and "5 Months 2 Weeks and 2 Days". They also cover some of the not so well known, but still wonderful tunes such as Louis Jordan's "Nobody Here But Us Chickens" and "Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby". Mose Allison's swinging blues "Don't Worry Bout a Thing" to his melodramatic "Mercy" can be heard rounding out a set. Cab Calloway's "Jumpin Jive" and Johnny Mercers's "The Trouble With Me Is You" are also included. The show also includes Rockabilly classics such as Billy Lee Riley's "Red Hot".  To learn more about The Blue Comets, visit www.worldwideimage.com/thebluecomets/.

On Saturday, August 7th, Darren Beachley & The Maryland Line will perform.  Bluegrass and gospel performer, Darren Beachley, began playing music professionally in 1979 at the age of twelve. His father's band needed a bass player, and he got the job.  It paid a whopping two dollars, but it was more fun than any 12-year-old could imagine, he'll tell you.  Nowadays, Beachley has his own band.  He leads a talented quartet of musicians whose lightning quick instrumentals and three and four part harmonies, lead by Beachley's "high and lonesome" sound, not only raise the hair on the back of your neck, but raise your spirits as well.  To learn more about Darren Beachley & The Maryland Line, visit www.darrenbeachley.com.
