Hi Everyone:
I received some very bad news from a well placed source two days
ago...Oct 25th after the Oxford, Mississippi show, Kevin and Karl
were FIRED from RCB. I have no info other than that.
I was shocked and very disappointed. I don't understand.
I have some thoughts I'd like to share....
I don't know if this decision came from Robert or from the management
group. Remember a year or so ago the management laid off some of the
road crew for "financial reasons." Was this move financial as well,
looking for a cheaper bassist and drummer? I hope not.
We also don't know what goes on "behind the scenes." What life is
like on the road with RCB. Now we all have met and spent time with
Karl and Kevin. They are first class musicians and people.
Friendly, out-going, very accomandating. And, I think, the BEST
rhythm section in the business. That will be hard to replace.
It seems, historically, since 1974,this seems commonplace. Robert
changes members every 15, 16 years. Maybe with the release of LFATP
he took the opportunity to mark the end to this current lineup. Or is
it time for a change, time to move on, maybe Karl and Kevin didn't
want to move on.
They are suppose to be recording a new CD during the next three
months (Nov-Jan '09) Does this move change that? Or speed it up?
Do they have replacemnts all ready in place and rehearsing?
It would be nice for Robert on the website to address this, or on the
management site. Maybe they will. I hope so.
And I hope the replacemnts are permanent members and not mercendaries
(famous names) who just join Robert and Jim on differnt tours. Like
John Hiatt, he has a differnet band every six months.
Maybe Karl and Kevin had plans to leave? Who knows? I hope they land
on their feet, tho, and keep us posted on their plans and whereabouts.
To me, when these four guys were on, no band could touch them. I hope
that continues.
A new day, maybe a new direction is coming for RCB. I, guess, I'll be
ready for it. I'll be in the front row.
But...I'll miss Kevin and Karl.
Comments? Thoughts?
