14. Time Makes Two
Saw them in March here, this show light years ahead of that one.
Much tighter as a band. Approaching what they were with Kevin and Karl.
My son and I were right down, by the lip of the stage. Its amazing to sit there
and hear the exchanges between them and watch their signals.
I leared a couple of things being that close.
How good Jim Pugh is...How much he fills in the sound, How important he is to
the music.
Another thing is how freaking good Richard Cousins is. He is unbelievable. I
loved Karl, and I miss him, but, this guy is playing in another stratosphere.
Tony is a very good drummer. Kevin is a very good drummer. Tony shines because
Richard shines. The two of them create an amazing foundation for Robert and Jim
to do their things.
Another thing I learned is how good Robert Cray is. To sit there and watch this
guy play, watch his fingers, watch his chording. How he can play and sing,
without getting confused is otherworldly. I have never seen anyone play and sing
like him, usually someone does one or the other. Not both. A real talent.
One more thing the new songs are great, this new CD should be terrific.
To my knowledge, this tour makes the first time that the band previewed new
songs before a CD is released. They usually release a CD then play the songs
live. It is a good idea, this way it builds interest in the new CD before its
released,
They also love the SMAC, I hope they come back soon.
